As of right now I'm free the 15th, 22nd and 29th (Saturdays) and the Sundays following each.

15th and 29th should both be free for me also. I can probably get the 22nd off if need be by working one of the other weekends. I am free all sundays too.

Did we want to do the lake houston thing like we talked about during the last ride?

hmmm, did anyone live through the HHH?

Are they still asleep/recouping from it? :D

Maybe they said, "That's it... I'm never riding again!!!"

The 22nd would be perfect for me.

The 15/16th and 22/23rd are all good for me.

Alright, the 22nd would be best for me, and it would be "perfect" for Dr. Nate, and OK for everyone else (Chevy, you alright with that? When do you know if you can get off of work?). We'll plan to leave from my house at 8 AM. PM me with your email address and I'll send you the address.

I'm going to take a look at the best/most interesting/least traffic route this weekend, and I'll let y'all know what it is exactly once I do that, but it should be between 40 and 50 miles.

Let me know if the 22nd will NOT work for you...

Teeleton

22nd is good for me as well.

Are there any hills in this area, or is it pretty flat?

With this much notice... I will get the 22nd off.... I'll probably have to work the weekend before instead, which isn't a problem at all. I am definatly in.

Welcome Teeleton, glad to see you chime in.

I'll also talk to Clayton about riding again... I know we gave him a workout last time :D . Hopefully he'll be up to it... he took a nasty spill earlier in the week, and ended up at the ER. He probably didn't need the ER, but got some stitches while he was there. Scratched the bike up, and chewed the seat and brifters up too. I'll try to get his brother to come also, but that'll be a challenge.

The 22nd is also the day of the HASTE meet, so its kind of like a "two-for-one" for me since I can get both events in on the same day.

HASTE meet?

Houston Area S-Series and T-Series Enthusiasts! How could you not know that? I can't believe you didn't know that! :D

I Googled it.

Oh crap... we've been made.

That's the truck club that Nate, teeleton, and I are in. Will (who came to a ride with chinotex, but was out of town for the cypress ride) is an honorary member.... he comes to all the meets but has never owned a non-german car. :p

And yeah, we can go out and get really tired... then veg out and scarf burgers and root beer at the truck meet. :D

Go figure that we are into cycling and gas hungry trucks.

So update...

chinotex
09-02-07, 02:08 PM
So update... I just finished riding the majority of the route (38 miles of it). I left off the section that is part of my daily ride. There were a few spots with some heavy traffic, but I was riding at 1 pm as opposed to 8 am, so I think that will make a big difference. The good news is I only ran into one dog. He came out of nowhere, and nearly got me... but his aim isn't very good, so he overshot me by about 5 or 10 feet. So all we have to do is let him shoot in front of us, and then hightail it out of there, and we'll be fine. There are rest stops at the 17 mile mark and ~31 mile mark - big gas stations with bathrooms and water and gatorade. And the ride was much flatter than Cypress, even though Cypress was pretty flat. The biggest hill, as I said before, was the overpass over the railroad tracks.

I'm going to tweak the route a bit today, then I'll mail it out to you.

Also, my parents will be waiting for us when we get back with food, so if you have a favorite post-ride snack, let me know. Otherwise it's Shiner, Ozarka and hot dogs.

Well I wrecked my bike on Saturday, laid it down at 23 mph and slid about 100 feet on my left side. I tore up my leg, arm, and shoulder. It is pretty stiff, but I was able to finish the last 30 miles. I bent my bars and my wheel is out of wack. So I need to go have the wheel trued (I don't want to do it) and figure out if I want to try to bend the bars back or just get new ones (they aren't bent that bad...just enough to annoy me). I think I can heal enough to be ready to go by then though.

Man, this sucks.

You better be ready for this ride... jeez it was just a little clipless fall :D :p

As for this ride...
I don't know that area at all, so the route (that was e-mailed to me) means nothing to me.... Only thing that jumps out at me is the trip along 290 across the bridge.... but it looks pretty wide once you zoom in.

OK, I've got a new/better map that is in .kml (you need Google Earth to open it) format, as well as a cue sheet. Bikeforums won't let me attach the Google Earth file, so I'll email it to those of you whose email addresses I have. If you don't get one, holler at me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

FYI, I picked up some ride flyers at Tour de Pink this weekend: October 20-21st: Bike Around the Bay (www.bikearoundthebay.org); November 10th: Novemberfest Metric Century benefiting The Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation (www.novemberfestmetriccentury.org); November 18th: Bike the Bend for Literacy (www.ftbendliteracy.org).

Bike Around the Bay: Day 1 - 93 miles; Day 2 - 77 miles.
Novemberfest Metric Century: 100k (duh)
Bike the Bend for Literacy: 59 miles.

Yeah, those are two of the three rides we were talking about over on HASTE. I still think we need to form the first ever "truck club based cycling team." :-)

I have a not-quite-mint base model Chevy Silverado 1500, everything standard except for the Rhino lining. I think I'm not-quite-ready-for-prime-time when it comes to truck clubs.

It isn't like any of us actually have our trucks in running condition. My Xtreme is in the garage...so is Duane's.

Man, I was hoping some others would join in. Clayton won't be making it... I think he's having surgery on his knees this week or next... not sure, I just remember thinking he wouldn't be riding... or atleast pushing it that far.
Can't wait for the ride... been neglecting any hard rides.... only been tooling around to work and stuff. Need to get in a couple long rides with all these possible centuries coming up.

 Not like you haven't had the offer for people to join you. :p:D So are we going to car pool for this ride? I know that you said you got your hitch put on and you have an open seat. ;)

chevy42083
09-14-07, 07:40 AM
Sorry,... have I been neglecting you?
Yeah, just been busy or had stuff to do.

Yeah, I have 3 open seats and plenty of bike-rack space at the moment. Carpooling is good.

Just let me know what time you plan to pick me up. I didn't get to ride with you guys tonight...I have to much homework and a bad accounting test coming up.

Wow. Thank you all for coming, it was good fun. I'll get the pictures up as soon as I get them from Gordon.

I fell asleep at like 1:30 this afternoon and just woke up. I guess the wind really took it out of me.

Yes, thanks for the ride... excellent scenery, and nice roads. I wouldn't mind doing that one again.
