Well folks, I am heading out for my Big Adventure. Today is my last day at work for three weeks! I am driving to CO on Monday where I will train at altitude for a couple weeks. On September 8 I will be riding from Logan, UT to Jackson Hole, WY. This is a 206 mile race that goes over three mountains. I'll be going up to about 8,000 feet at the highest point. I'll try to check in when I can, and let you all know how the race went when I get back.

Rock ON, show 'em how us Clydes do it!
Wow. Good Luck! Take lots of photos! The extra weight of a camera during training will be good!

Thanks for all the encouragement, folks! And solveg, I'll have plenty of pics for you to enjoy, if only I can learn how to get the things posted...
I'll be working on that. In the meantime, everyone ride safe, stay healthy, and keep the rubber side down!

Good Luck! Just heard about the ride from a runner in the Hood to Coast relay and looked it up. Definitely will be on my list to ride next year.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts about the ride!
May the wind be continually at your back...
Dayum! Sounds awesome - have a blast!

Well folks, I made it back from Utah and what an experience it all was. You can read about the whole story on my blog at http://uncledanbiking.blogspot.com. The story is WAY too long to share here!
It was quite a story, too... Glad you made it back in one piece!

What an adventure! 50 MPH what a rush.
Wow. I thought that that was the point of organized rides, that if you got into trouble, they'd give you and your bike a ride back to your car, if need be. Or at least to a ride doctor...or something. I don't quite understand why that didn't happen. I know there are reasons because I read your story, but it worries me that that happened.

It worried me too! This issue was my one complaint about the event. They highly recommended having a support crew, but when I specifically asked about riding without one, they told me it wouldn't be a problem. I was also informed that I wouldn't have any problem getting back to Logan when I asked about that - and this was true, it really wasn't. However, getting to the hotel and awards ceremony was a whole other issue. Next year, I'll be sure to have a support crew, even if it means hiring one!
