Hi
I have a pair of Magura mountain bike rim brakes, can these brakes work on a crossframe?
Should I buy a pair of new brakes?
If so what are the best brakes for cross?

The best cross brakes are Paul Neo Retro front and Touring Canti rear. They are pricey.
The Shimano cantis are pretty nice. The new Kore cantis are probably good since they are along the lines of Spooky/Frogglegs/Mafacs but take adjustable pads rather than fixed post pads. The problem with fixed post pads is you have to bend the post to get toe in.
Stay away from Avids and Radius (do they still make those?). The Tektro/Cane Creek cantis are okay, no great shakes, but are cheap.
IRD makes a canti and it falls somewhere between the Spooky/Frogs/Kore and the Tektro/Cane Creek brakes.

The best cantis I have ever used were Shimano LX ones. The ones that looked like D's. They were fitted to a friends Raleigh Randonneur. There are lots of nice old MTB cantis out there too. Mine is getting Suntour XC Pro. Mini V brakes are popular in Germany, though some people have trouble making them work with drop levers.
