Bicycle Mechanics - Mountain bike + road fork and wheel

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, all. I've got an old hardtail MTB that I want to make rigid to play bike polo on (the stock fork is pretty much shot). I'm primarily curious if the geometry will likely be excessively twitchy (keep in mind that polo is usually low-speed). Also, are there any other gotchas to watch out for? (like crown race diameter or something?)

I already have extra road brake bits hanging around, so the travel issue is already taken care of. The bike is a 2003 K3 Zed 4.0

The suspension setup:
Manitou Axel Comp (2003)
80mm of travel
100mm longer than the road fork when uncompressed
~5cm rake
26" wheel + 2.1" tire

The road setup:
Stock carbon fork, Fuji Finest (2004)
~5cm rake
700c wheel + 25mm or 28mm tire

carbon fork for polo?

That was my first thought too - word for word.

Heh, what this guy said. Anyways, nashbar carries fork designed for mtb suspension bikes to rigid conversions. Not carbon though.
