Along with 12 other BF members from the NorCal forum, I am now the CHAMPION OF MY OWN MIND!!!!

The NorCal jerseys came in (not mine, I'm in the reorder) and a celebration ride was planned up Mt. Diablo. I last road up it in 89 or so. Because it's filipn' steep, that's why. It's taken me this long to man up and try again.
I lived through it, even the 200 yard straight-up killer wall at the end. Didn't punk. Only stopped at the junction to regroup.

A good time was had by all. And did I mention I made it and didn't puke?

No. The heroic part is that i DIDN'T carry the bike. I actually rode it. Weird, huh?
Or maybe it would be harder to carry it in road shoes with slippery cleats.

Like BluesDawg, I've been up Mt. Diablo by car. I have seen the determination of many riders to get up there as we passed them on the way up and the reward after reaching the summit is the maginificent view and the fast ride downhill. Maybe next time I visit, I'll try to get up there on 2 wheels.

Never done it -car or bike- and I'm pretty darn sure I never will.
Nice job CCC.

You should have put more effort in- If you really wanted to puke.

Well done so whats the climb for next week?

I'm glad you didn't puke! :) Oh... congratulations on your accomplishment. I haven't done the devil mountain yet, hopefully one day soon.

Aren't you supposed to wear Polka Dots now? :roflmao:

I wouldn't worry about puking on that ride, :)

I'd worry about having a heart-a-stroke

There isn't anything in this part of the country to ride up that rises 100 feet, let alone 3800. I reckon I'd go about 200 feet up that puppy and start begging for a good excuse (like puking) to get me off of that hill before I passed away!

I read the ride report and enjoyed the pics on the NorCal forum. Looks like a really fun ride.

I wonder how tandem-friendly that climb is? It's on my short list of hills to climb.

Congrats on your accomplishment. I'm impressed!

Well done on the climb, and thanks for report and pic.

That's an inspiration for the rest of us who have hills available to climb.

I was with cccorlew on this ride and saw 2 tandems going up, plus 1 recumbent! One of the tandems was having a hard time up the last 200 yards, went too slow and tipped over :o!!! No harm done other than to the ego, I'm sure.

And to answer your question, the average grade is around 6%. It's just long at 10.8 miles. There are no real tough (steep) sections, other than the last 200 yards, where someone with a sick sense of humor put in something like a 20% grade (but it's short..)

Oh, and did I mention that cccorlew provided the entertainment for the group on this ride? He's a jokester as you folks on this forum probably know by now. He made us pose for pictures:

Did cccorlew make all of you carry your bikes up Diablo?
