Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bar Ends (Road Ends)

I am thinking of getting some bar ends for the MTB to give a different wrist position on longer rides.

I came across these (Origin8 Road Ends)

and wondered if anyone had tried them. I also have some back issues that crop up at times and was thinking these might give a different position for my back too, as opposed to regular bar ends, as they look like they would stretch out and lower me a little when needed. Varying between drops and tops feels good on my Schwinn.

Not too worried about the 'aero' aspect on the MTB as that is the least of my worries when it comes to performance and speed. lol

Anyone see any issues with them right off the bat?

Well, I ordered them so I will report when they get here. I figured it was only $30 shipped so why not. lol

Those road ends look pretty interesting. I may pick up a pair for one of my other bikes.

I was suffering from elbow tendonitis, and one of the actions I took was to add these Cane Creek Ergo Control 2 Bar Ends, which I am very happy with. I never anticipated that they would give me the comfortable feel I like of riding on the hoods of a road bike. And you can angle them just the way you want them. Angle one different from another and see which one feels better etc. Sometimes I feel the heel of my palm is a little boxed in when riding normally, and remember, you can;t brake from these ends, but overall I have found them to bewell worth it. The tennis elbow problem did go away.

Here is another way to use bar ends. I flipped them to clear the shifters and brake levers, the fasteners were in the way of a comfortable grip, thus the bar tape. I really like the way they work, very comfortable added position. I originally had them in the usual position, but did not like they very wide stance that gave me. I ride on them a lot now!

I rode to work with them today for the first time. I like them. Not perfect as they are a little smaller than I figured and the screw that holds them on is in a bad place. When you put your hands in the position that would be 'the hoods' on a road bike bar, the top of the screw head hits into my palm. Not bad through the gloves but I figure I may end up wrapping them in bar tape and that should take care of that.

They are comfortable for me in the drop position. They could use to be slightly larger, I think, around the bend but I have pretty big hands. I suspect it might depend upon your handlebar and bike geometry, too. They feel different than drops on a road bike, probably do mainly to them overall with being much wider than it would be on a road handle bar. But I did not find them unstable.

I moved my hands into enough different positions with them that I never even got a slight tingly on the way to work or back. I will see how I like them on a longer ride this weekend, I hope.

+464421 On the Ergon Grips... I love them and no longer have worrisome numbness in my hands. I find myself using the short, but comfortable bar ends about 80% of the time. Can't say enough good things about them.

I just got those too... they're fantastic! I've only been able to ride once since I got them, but my fingers were actually LESS numb after the ride than they were before!

If you really ended up missing the hoods, you could put some dummy brake levers on or some such thing, I guess.

Yep and they are a piece of cake to adjust to find that perfect position.

Thread revival here I come ...

I want to get a set of these Ergon grips, but I don't know whether to get the ones with bar ends on or to just use my current bar ends instead. Does anybody care to try convincing me one way or the other? I note B Piddy's comment about using them 80% of the time, but is that because the bar ends themselves are something special, or would my current bar ends (just standard ones, about 12cm/4.75" long with a small bend near the end) do the job?

Also, I've seen a few pictures of bikes with those drop bar ends, and I would really like to try some. Any updates after a while living with them?

Will regular bar ends fit on those? Those mini bars look kind of integrated. I have a set of bars on my MTB and im looking to replace the lousy stock grips, too.

An update of my own on the road ends. I still have them on and still like them. I hardly ever have my hands on the normal part of the handlebars (where the normal grips are). I am almost always on the top of the road ends. I can be on top of them in a number of different ways to relieve any hand numbness/issues. I don't use the drops a whole lot but from time to time on a ride to give a little different position for my back. Kind of stretch it out.

I am pretty sure I could get 90% or more of the same results with regular ergo bar ends but I have no plans to replace the road ends.

Is the main difference between the GR and GC bar-ends from Ergon just the Length of the mini bar and the material? How do the ones without the minibar feel?
