roddick is too one dimensional. not exactly a good match-up with federer when all he has to do is wait for roddick to have one bad game on serve. bring on some new talent, please. this is getting old...

It just seems to me that no one hits for depth, but they just want to kill the ball. Lot of the winners that Federer hit were short balls that landed just beyond the service line. These were things my old tennis coach wanted us to avoid.

I tend to enjoy the first week of tennis coverage more than the quarters and beyond.

well, federer just hits the right shots at the right time. he adapts on the move and only does what he needs to do in order to beat the other guy.
this isn't true with most other players. of course hitting deep is the right thing to do, but it's hard when all you're doing is trying to respond to one great shot after another. when they hit short against him, they're doing it to increase their margin of error, which is an error in and of itself.

Speaking of hitting deep. I loved that tie break shot where Roddick serves at close to 140 mph, and Federer just kind of blocks it back right on the line at Andy's feet. Roddick must have thought it was going out and then tried to short hop it. It totally derailed Roddicks groove.

Sore knees => 4 movies this weekend.

Infamous: very good, but a notch below Capote.
Beowulf: underwhelmed. Some nice visuals, but contains so many cliche elements, that it makes the whole thing feel tongue-in-cheek. Like most Zemeckis movies, it strives for the middle ground.
In America: Touching enough, and I wanted to like this, but it's a bit disjointed and uneven. The kids turn in good performances.
Mansfield Park: Dreadful. By far the worst Jane Austen movie I've seen.

Watched Planet Terror last night (the RR half of Grindhouse). I had low expectations since these tongue-in-cheek horror comedy satires almost never seem to work, but this was a fun (and funny) ride. It's probably 20 minutes too long, but worth a look if you don't mind a massive dose of very cartoonish violence (I don't get off on movie violence at all, but this was so cartoonish, you whince and chuckle at the same time).
