Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - cheap crank set

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am building a beater fixie to get around. Nothing fancy since I am going to ride this bike year round (all weather) and don't want it to get stolen.
I am looking at low end Shimano BB (UN73) and crankset (Sora) to put on it since these are pretty cheap and I don't want to spend more than I need.
The bike is a 80's panasonic.
Thanks.

If you want to buy something new, have a look at the Sora crankset/chainring combo deal from Harris Cyclery

That is my first choice right now.

i've got a 165mm sora crankset with a rocket ring on my townie, and i couldn't be happier.
inexpensive, ok looking, and reliable.
should be good enough for any other fixie road conversion that you didn't want to become a money pit.

I also got the Harris deal, about the best deal I could find in a 165mm.

look around for some old road cranks. as long as they don'r have the spider that's just pressed onto the right crankarm (as long as that's all one piece), you should be golden. EEEEBAAAAAAAY!
