the hill climb wasnt that bad, but i was like nine sparks in so i was dead in the parking lot at the top of the hill. they were way off on the 1000 ridazz thing, but whatever. **** the *******s in the condos that were throwing eggs at us in the parking lot when that band was playing. i threw bud light at your balcony and stole your octopus so neener neener.
Was a Big Ass required to ride? ;)

I don't think you're really in a position to call others an ass. To wit:
bite it you scum.
You reap what you sow, man.

YEAH! it seem like 700 to 800 riders. it was quite a sight to see. toward the end of the ride, we were waiting at laural canyon and the 101. i got up from my seat and looked behind and it was a good feeling to see everyone behind me. i was so happy i rode up the hill all the way. i had to book it as soon as the ride was done. how was the after party?

the after party was bunk. fire twirlers. ****ty ramones covers. the people living in the condos overlooking the parking lot to athenas were not happy about us at all and threw eggs and water balloons. most of their projectiles hit the vehicles that were parked in the lot instead of bikes and bikers. then the cops came and broke it up.

Let me give you a hint, Tim (and others). You can't police or shame Tyler. He is what he is.

Hey, I have a question about these big-ass type rides:
It sounds like it somehow all comes together and works out just fine, despite the large numbers, and what I'm guessing are at least some folks who aren't super-experienced in group rides. You know, folks who don't do roadie-rides with drafting experience, etc.
How do y'all pull it off? Maybe I'm imagining that big group rides are more complicated than they are in reality; the only "group" experience I have is riding on the SaMo bikepath on a holiday weekend with thousands of "friends-I've-yet-to-meet" (random friendly strangers, not an organized ride), and that experience was kinda hairball.
Do people kinda just naturally flow-and-school like fish?
Night rides sound just so cool (and no sunscreen needed!). Looking forward to joining a Ridazz event as soon as possible.

hmm... sounds kind of....hot...

you're right about the inexperienced people. everybody goes just to ride. it's not 'roadies' only or anything like that. it's just a big ass no pressure fun ride.

What Dave said. Sometimes I ride my 1955 Rollfast beach cruiser, other times ride a MTB and others ride a fixed gear. It's not a race, peloton, or "serious" ride. It's just fun on a bike while a larger percent of Angelenos are having "fun" by clubbing or whatever they are into on a Friday night.

When I went on the ride here with the L.A. crew, I noticed something very different with them as compared to the Portland folk. You guys took far greater care for the ride as a whole and the people on it than is typical to see here. The Dropout ride was not sports-oriented at all, but the way you guys so consistently called out the slightest hazard, how you were just about the first to volunteer for corking duties, and how you cared for (or about) the rider that fell was amazing and made me feel slightly ashamed for some of my fellow Portlanders. I think people get stupidly nonchalant on rides here because of how safe it is to ride a bike where we are. You Rideazz folk bike in far more dangerous venues (relatively speaking), and it brings out the best in you as human beings.
You may have been all about having great bikey fun, but your sense of collective responsibility for each other stayed strong and was truly a privilege to behold. :)

Nice!
L.A. takes a bad rap in many ways, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how helpful people can be here during times of distress. Back when I was young and broke and had a crappy car that had a bad habit of breaking down at the worst times, someone would always stop to offer help or just check if I was OK. Often that person was someone who appeared to not have two nickels to rub together, if you get my drift. Something about this place engenders this we're-all-in-it-together attitude, maybe?
Anyway, thanks to all for the feedback on the big group rides. In this hot weather, night rides are where it's at!
