Hah! I got on first to report....

Pupsocket and I met up down on the Cannon Valley Trail had a fine day! This was the first time I gone riding with anyone, and the miles just flew. We could have kept going, but we stopped and had a long break in the park, got started talking, and by the time we got back to the mid-point it was later than I thought. Pupsocket's bent is very* cool, and now I want one-- I can use it to collect all the leaves in my yard! (Leaves seem to get stuck in the little wheels, for some reason).

Anyway, it was way* more fun than riding alone, and pupsocket is great company!

Hah! I had to stop for groceries. The miles sure did fly by. We met a rider on a fixed gear Ibis Scorcher, one of 100 made, shown here:

Solveg said just what I was thinking: when riding socially with someone else, you're not worried about speed, cadence, tire pressure, hill climbs, or whatever. I now will have a bit more tolerance when I approach others riding side by side, reluctant to drop into single file.

Sounds like a fun trip.

I love riding solo, but sometimes I like some company. One thing my stepson, Jerry, and I like to do is take turns being the "leader" of the ride. Sometimes I tend to always take the same route to get somewhere, so it's interesting to see how another rider will select a different route. It's especially interesting to ride a route with Jerry, because he's always getting lost, and you never know where you'll end up. :)

See, although the chances of it were slim with Pupsocket today, in general I have no idea where I am going or if water will be available. I often just randomly turn down paths to see where they go and get totally lost. My biggest fear is running out of water....

I'm with you on that one, I would rather get home with ½ bottle left, then to run out and not be able to resupply.

Looks like great fun, and looks like Mother Nature cooperated, too!

Oh, forgot to mention the wildlife! We saw a big black panther cross our path a few hundred feet ahead. As we drew nearer, we saw that it was only a black cat. MASSIVE cat, though.

Reminds me of a co-worker who swore that he'd seen a mountain lion cross the road in front of him AND THEN TURNED AROUND AND CROSSED THE ROAD AGAIN.

If you do see a big black panther, please let me know, as I will be flying out there immediately to take a look see for myself :) .

In the meantime, it looks as if the two of you had a great time. Come to think of it, I think the Ibis Scorcher probably would go a long way on my birding life list :D .

We have a couple of nice scenic paved trailes in the area. I'm going to have to get over to this one and give it a ride, one of these days.

If that cat had been a dog (which at first we thought it was), it would have been about the size of an small border collie, and weighed more. I once had a 20 lb black cat, and this looked to be half again as big. We raced up to see it better because we really could not tell from a distance it was a cat because of its size.

Yes, Terrierman! You have dibs on the "Atlantis" now. We were just talking on the ride about whether the cost of a new "old skool" bike was worth it. I mean, the actual vintage bikes ride so well I wonder what the benefits of buying new really are?

But I do have to say, whether it's the 26" tires or the newer components, or the design of the bike, it is a joy to ride. But Pupsocket's bike looked like a joy to ride, too!

Thanks for the link Caincando1. I was thinking that you and Solveg were in Kansas. I could drive there on one of my 3 day weekends and we could ride the trail. Ahhh...you are a litlle bit further away than that:roflmao:

However, I can forsee myself being in Colorado sometime in the next year! We can go riding then! And when if we get something going in KS (which I'm sure we will) we'll let you know! We'll look for panthers!

We didn't ride that exact route, instead starting in Welch, I'm guessing about 19 miles round trip. Except for a few open stretches less than 1/2 mile long, it's pretty much a green tunnel from end to end. There's a commercial campground near the trail, as well as innertubing/canoeing/kayaking in Welch.

On weekdays, that trail is great! Cannon Falls grocery across from the trail head makes a great lunch stop. And that green tunnel can be fast. Wheee!

That looks like an awesome ride. Clear Creek trail is the only one I can think of that could closely resemble a green tunnel, but in early spring, the Highline canal from the Chattfield Res is absolutely stunning. Well its also great in the fall when the Aspens are turning.

If you make it out this way, the wife and I would be happy to put you up if it is convenient for you. Lots of trails right near the house. Don't know that we would find all that many panthers:eek:, but I could probably guarantee a Deer or two
