i'm just starting to get into flatland, but im wondering if i should get a "flatland" bike
i currently own a 3-ish year old haro shredder. Its a freestyle bike, so i'm not sure if it will be ok for flatland. Should i just buy some flatland parts (freecoaster, etc.) or is the frame too heavy? Maybe i should just try to sell it and buy a flatland bike? If so, what are some good flatland bikes?

If you were to get a new bike, you should look at a Dk signal. There might be better ones but it's the only flatland bike I know of.

I don't flatland so I don't know any other bikes, but other than that the specs are pretty good.

preferably below $400
but i'm just starting, so i don't need a super high end bike
but not a piece of crap bike either

There are only two flatland bikes that are under $400. The KHE Stylus, and the DK Signal. I have a WTP Metric, and I got it for just under $500 shipped. I like it, although if you are just starting out, you could get by with either of the two cheaper bikes mentioned above.

Although now that I think about it, I'm still a newbie. I don't know why I got a $500 bike when I can't really do anything cool on it. :D

Go with whatever is comfy. It's hard to learn a new bike and a new skill all at once. I can still get around a track faster on my street bike than my racer even though it weighs twice as much - go figure! If the bike you already have is ok then use it to start out until you know what you're really looking for. You could waste you're money o'wise.
