I'm living in Lubbock, and am looking for new bike trails to go try out. The only ones I've been on are Buffalo Springs Lake (twice), and JFK/Mae Simmons Bike Trail (twice a week). I've heard of a trail locals call Purina Mills, but don't know where it is. Also, I know there are trails at Palo Duro, but I haven't checked them out yet. Directions and/or reviews would be great.

Wish I could help you but I have been out of Lubbock for a while. I will tell you I went to purina a few times and after the last time I will never go back. Unless it has been cleaned up, there are shards of metal everywhere. Last time I fell within inches of a rusty piece of steal that could of seriously hurt me. That and the place to park there is in very shady part of town. Its just not worth it IMO.

You could ride the rails to trails route near Quitaque, that's pretty cool. Best hamburgers in Texas are at the Sportsman when you're done.

For Palo Duro, go to Canyon, TX and follow the signs to the PD Canyon. The trail is right off the main road.

I found Purina today and pretty much hated it. The trail was severely overgrown. I cam away bleeding from about 10 different places on my arms and legs and I didn't even wreck. As you get to the end of the trail, where someone has built dirt jumps, the trail virtually disappears. Also there is what looks like an old dump and this is where you start seeing glass and shards of metal lying about. On top of that the trail is covered with very very loose rock that makes handing and climbing iffy at best. I won't bother going back there again.

yep sounds like it has stayed the same. At least you did not get chased by some rabid looking pit bulls like I did last time. The only part of that trail I find the least bit enjoyable is the last part in the woods, less rocky.
