Hey guys,

I'm a roadie and have done quite a bit of racing this year. I'm wanting to start doing some XC races in the next few months. My wife decided over the weekend that she wants my old mountain bike. This works out great for me because it gives me a good excuse to buy a new bike. One of my local bike shops carries the Motobecane Fly Pro. Here's a BD link with the specs for the same bike:

http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fly_pro_07instock.htm

My LBS is matching the bikesdirect price and offering free tune ups for life. I've had good experiences with the shop in the past.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with this bike?

yep, it's a great bike. No issues with it. Nothing too fancy, but it'll work.

The top tubes are really short on the bigger models.

I was in the same situation and bought the Fantom Team and it is outstanding for the price. The components alone are worth the price. It does take some bike knowledge as far as assembly - just getting it dialed into my fit and preferences took about 4 hours. Good luck.

Great bike, great price and a great deal on the lifetime maintenance. A bike specd out like that would cost $1300-1500 easy. Geometry looks a little slack for an XC race bike though but I dont think its a big deal

It listed as a 21lb bike which I think is a stretch. But I thinks close. Its definately race ready.
