Not sure if Davis is north enough to qualify as NoCal, sorry...

My wife & I are flying to Davis CA to ride in the Foxy's Fall Century October 20th, but for a variety of reasons we cannot bring our own bikes. We're looking for a place within a 20-30 minute drive that rents decent road bikes. Already tried The Bike Barn, B&L Bikes, Freewheelers, and Ken's Bike & Ski (Ken's came close with their fleet of Raleigh Cadent 1.0's & 2.0's, but we were hoping for something just a bit more upscale if possible). Is there a shop near Davis that rents name-brand, lightweight, drop bar & brifter-equipped road bikes by the day?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try Steve Larsen's Wheelworks? I'm not sayin' they got anything to rent, only that they fit the bill for the kind of bikes you want to rent. Elsewise you might try Sacto 15 miles east and see if your luck's any better out there. Good luck.

*Correction: I guess Steve Larsen sold and it's now Davis Wheelworks (http://www.daviswheelworks.com/)

I'm not sure about renting, but the bike shops in town are: Ken's Bike and Ski, Wheelworks, and B&L. I left one out but I don't really count them as a bike shop anyway. If any of those would rent out bikes I'd think it would be Ken's because they rent ski's in the winter so they're used to the procedure.

I replied on the Road Bike Review forum, but you're welcome to borrow a 53cm Specialized Allez if that would help. PM me if interested. Otherwise, try Wheelworks (great guys) or Sacramento shops such as City Bike Works.
