Sadly, I've lost my cycling mojo. I went on a tour earlier this summer and got totally fired up about cycling but for the last month haven't even eeked out 50 miles. What's wrong with me???

I search Ebay and the classifieds endlessly for a good deal on a new or used bike, thinking a new bike will motivate me. Any comments (be nice) or suggestions? Will a new fancy-schmancy bike help me regain my lost mojo?

maybe set a mileage goal? i'm all for new shiny things, but maybe you need more mental motivation.

I usually ride on the road. Recently I've been riding a pretty tuff mountain bike path, really changes things up. Try a different kind of cycling.

Find a new riding partner? Someone else might motivate you to go out there, since they are... or you might just be looking forward to new conversation.

Get a gun do some drive by shootings on squirrels and rabbits , practice @ 5 mph then
work your self up with more speed, just be careful not to shoot your eye wear them safety glasses.
What I found that works for me once ina while is to start riding without any timer or computer
and just to ride through neighbor hoods and random places with no set goal or distance or location.
I lived in Milwaukee all my life and there is always some place new to find on a voyage of no know
location .

It's August. Happens to all of us. Honestly arrange to take a good long ride with people you like and put a piece of tape over every measurement instrument you use.

Also I like to pull out other bikes during times like this. My fixed gear does wonders towards making remember what it is I love about cycling. Go buy a cheap older rig, and convert it for around $150.

Try riding without all of your gear. One ride without shorts, jersey, etc. Helmet gloves and shoes are required in my book.

Try riding in a new location. Find the one place you would never intentionally ride and make yourself ride there.

Ride with new people. Come on to bikeforums to meet others in your area and just ride with someone new.

See, this is why you get arrested every time you ride past the elementary school, Psimet.

For the sake of everything right and good in the world, put your pants and shirt back on.

:D

coletta, he's right on one point: It's August. The late summer doldrums hit hard. Make plans to ride with someone, even if for a short route. Find a weekend organized ride. Etc. Good luck!

Go out and run for a few days. That should regenerate the interest in riding.

That all depends on what you're riding now.....

Two things have been regular motivators for me this year....both new

1. New Bike....very sweet and expensive ride....So, I figure I need to get my money out of this thing.

2. I was turned onto this website and another one that has really kept me motivated to ride. www.bikejournal.com It is basically a web-based, interactive bicycling log. Pretty neat site. I look at my "ranking" and keep wanting to push it higher. It has been a pretty darn good motivator.

I've had a rough month as well. First it was the heat. Then it rained for two weeks. Sprinkle liberally with
50 hour work weeks and 'must do' chores -> low bike milage.

I say don't sweat it. The bike is there when you're ready for it. Hopefully I will get out for a half hour today.

The new bike did it for me. I can't see letting it sit in the garage after spending the money.

I also find I'm more motivated to ride since I joined a local cycling club. This is my second season with the club and I've been averaging 100+ miles a week in good weather. I also rode during the winter months and this was something I never did before joining the club.
