What part of Hwy 1? Or do you mean the whole length?

1) There are lots of trails along Hwy1. It's cycling heaven IMHO! I live along Hwy1, if you want a good ride, let me know, I'll show you around. Any degree of difficulty you want:).

2) Are you referring to organized events? There have been several rides that have gone down Hwy1. Don't know what else remains as the season is drawing closer to the end. But, bah, you don't need no stinkin' organized events to enjoy the coast.

3) Lastly, I'm planning a NorCal BF Coastal Century in late September, where we'll ride from Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay and back. It'll be a mild century with about 5,000 ft of climbing, wind at our back on the return leg, and lunch at a cafe in HMB. Probably be 3rd or 4th Saturday in Sep. Watch for the post.

Take HWY 1 north from the Golden Gate Bridge north to Jenner. The Terrible Two Double Century goes south from Stewarts' Point to Ft. Ross every year. For an easier ride take a Marin County bus over to Stinson Beach , ride north to Bodega Bay and catch the Sonoma county 29 bus back to Santa Rosa, finally the GG Transit bus 80 back to your start. You can do this one from the first Saturday after the fourth of July to mid September.

I end up in San Jose at least once a month, and I was thinking that maybe next time I would take my bike and do some coastal riding, so I was looking at the area between Half Moon Bay and Big Sur. I've driven it tons, but never saw too many bikes. I was thinking something along the lines of parking at one of the state beaches and just seeing what happens from there.

I've heard from reliable sources that the road south of Carmel tends to be narrow and without a shoulder for bikes to ride on.
