BMX - New

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey, I'm a new BMX rider, only 14, and have BMXed for about 2 months. I ride a complete stock Specialized Fuse ONE and was thinking of making a custom bike (all custom picked out parts by me) and wanted to know if i should hold off or not. I use my bike everyday to get to and from school and then go to the skatepark for a few hours. I guess you could say I was good for only BMXing for 2 months but I'm not sure. Anways, should I make the bike or not?:p

well i would upgrade complete before custom incase you dont want to keep biking for some reason. depends on your budget also.

I plan on biking for at least until I'm out of highschool. But what would be a good bike to upgrade to?

It doesn't sound like you are too into your bike then. That would make it a bit dumb to buy all new parts when your old stuff isn't broken.

Well I mean I'm in highschool for another 4 years and from what I've done on a bike I enjoy it so I will probably bike for a while after highschool too. And true my bike is not broken.

A custom can range over $1k.

Yeah was expecting that, I should just upgrade a few parts on my bike at first I'd guess. But first the grips lol.

Upgrade is probably the best thing unless you're bike is poop.

Naw, it's surprisingly very good for a first BMX bike, I'd say it weighed... 20lb or so which I thought was light lol

Okay, let's not "lol" here. Also, unless your bike is a race bike, there is no way that it weighs anywhere near 20 pounds.

Theres no way I can justify how much it weighs because specialized.com doesn't seem to say. But it's defiently lighter than my backpack thats for sure :D

If you can afford a custom, and actually know what you want already, go for it. It doesn't hurt anybody, helps the industry, and if it makes you happier to ride your bike that's all that counts.

That actually looks kinda nice.
