Its probally bit early to talk about this as I am not going to be riding a fixie until the racing season is over but thought I would get some info just now.

I tend to do a bit of weight training during the winter and get out in the cold rain and wind for low effort rides to pass through the winter. This year I am wanting to ride a fixed gear for a few months as ive heard from a lot of guys who race(road) that it can help your smooth your pedalling and good for increasing your cadence etc....

Ive picked up bits and pieces from this forum and on the web so just a few things need help with.I am going to use my winter bike, and as it has horizontal drop outs this seems perfect.Strip the parts down, keep front brake, just one chain ring, smaller chainring bolts etc..

Only thing left is to either buy and new fixed wheel or to buy a track hub and to use one of my old training wheels I have? What gearing do you think I should be using, granted its the off season and the emphasis is on easy spinning. Was thinking about 42-18?

Any advice would be great cheers.

What is your budget? I say buy a wheel for the intended purpose...you can never have enough bike schtuff. Unless, you want to build a wheel...or you can get a Surly Fixxer for a cassette-based freewheel...or you can, wait. I think that's it. Anyone else?
