I have all day saturday to myself am looking to do an epic ride. I am open to ideas so if you have anything in mind but just haven't done it yet.......LET'S GO!
Let me know.:D

BM and club hypoxia have a century planned. See the group ride thread :)
I'm still trying to determine if I can make that one.
I think I'm riding mtb all day Saturday. I'll have to verify this though.

Ok. I have to find something else to ride besides BM's tour de rockies. :p
Any ideas? Maybe lookout? Unless my bald head scares poor little ole Kevin. :p

I don't suck. (except wheel) I'll go with you Bill. Where's the ride info, that group ride thread is too long to wade thru.

Peak to Peak ride info (Saturday):
I've been thinking of doing a ride from Boulder, up the Boulder Canyon to Nederland across the Peak to Peak highway to Estes Park, then back to Boulder.
The route is a full century. It also has a very significant amount of climbing, probably 7,000 or 8,000 feet of vertical.
Plan is to meet at the Boulder Rec Center (at 55th and South Boulder Road) at 7:30 a.m. for an 8 a.m. roll-out.
UPDATE
Here is the route: www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Boulder-Nederland-Estes-Loop
We probably won't be leaving at exactly 8... several people will be arriving about that time, including me... I'll be rolling up at just about 8 AM sharp (but... I'll already be on my bike and ready to go!)
Mt Evans Ride Info (Sunday):
Meet at Echo Lake for a 7:30 am (SHARP!) departure.

OK, see you at the boulder rec center, i might drag a friend along. I'll also be rolling there.
Sorry Mikey-Poo I'm thinking I'm gonna hang with Bill for the day or atleast until I fall off the back, lose my way, and have to call a cab. :D You should come to!
See ya guys Saturday. :P

My schedule is a tad schizophrenic right now and changing day to day. I may me able to ride either Sat or Sun or neither. So... *shrugs*
God I need to get around to finding another vehicle.
If ya need a ride all ya gotta do is ask. <sheesh> *Whacks DJ with hat Gilligan style

It is more of a daycare issue at the moment.
I have a few other options to look at. But a ride may help.

WOOT!
Look forward to seeing you there!
It's an awesome ride, and well worth the effort. The first part is a lot of climbing, but we're doing it the easy way... the other two times this summer that I've done the ride, we did 90 miles or so BEFORE the start of the climb. :p
I'm kinda freaking out. The last time I rode a century it took me 10 hours to complete. (elephant rock) This is going to be in the mountain, which it will take longer....I don't have lights on my bike. :D
How long does it usually take you to complete this Bill?
bmclaughlin807
08-29-07, 11:17 AM
How would I know??? The times I've done it, it was part of a brevet. After an hour of sleep the night before, and 90 miles on the bike before we started, I stopped and took a half hour nap half way up. :p
Going up is slow, but once we get up it's pretty easy and fast. I wouldn't worry about it too much. The initial climb is probably half (or nearly so) of the total time of the ride.
Edit: Bring food for on-the-bike time! 4 hrs of climbing requires refueling!
Just to be safe make sure you have some bail out options. Make sure there is someone that can come get you if your not feeling the ride. :)
ok...good idea.
Snowy can you come get me?
LOL :D

Pwnt, we are talking Saturday boulder century, right?
1) I get to meet you all!!! YAY!
2) don't freak out there are multiple straightforward bailout options before you head up to Estes. From the P2P you can zoom back *down* to boulder on Lefthand Canyon or *down* to Lyons on St. Vrain/Hwy 7, both of which dump you out on Hwy 36 where it is flat back to Boulder.
3) that part about it being flat after you get to Ned is a complete and utter lie, unless you consider 2500-3000 feet of climbing to be flat. But there is some descending in there, too.
4) there are places to get snacks & water on the route: Ned, Ward, Allenspark, Estes Park. But yeah, fuel for the ~20 mile initial climb up to Ned is required.
See you Saturday (unless I go climbing instead)
Valygrl
Ahh you go climbing and you're CUT from the team. :P
oh and I ain't scur'd. I just keep pedaling and don't look up. Peice o' pie....easy as cake. err something like that.
See ya on Saturday....RIGHT??!?!?!!?!
bmclaughlin807
08-29-07, 09:45 PM
I never said it was FLAT after Nederland... just that it was easy (comparatively). And relatively fast. :p
What new bike did you get Bill? Huh? huh? huh? TELL US...HHUH?
Hey everyone, Bill is holding out on us!!!!!!
bmclaughlin807

Hey.. wait a sec... how'd you know about the bike???
Are you stalking me AGAIN?
*boggles*
Huh... that's just weird... now I'm creeped out! :p
I picked up a Trek 7200 for my wife. She loves it! It's lighter than the one she was riding, better suited for her riding style right now (much more upright) and it's got a triple on it... with a 28 chainring and a 34 in the back... she should be able to ride up just about anything!

Hey, this IS Colorado... 2500-3000 feet of climbing IS flat! :p

Sandbagger. ;)
If pwnt is talking about taking 10 hours to do the elephant and bringing lights along, I thought I would attempt to accurately characterize the ride. silly me.
see you out there, at least for a couple minutes, until you ride away from me like the wind....
pwnt, you are bringing ice cream to go with that cake or pie, right?
DataJunkie
08-30-07, 11:39 AM
Alrighty.... I am in for this ride and out for Evans. The wife nixed Evans and found daycare for this one.
I have ridden all of one time this week and should be nice and rested. That is if I can make it through the ride. LOL
Now to hitch a ride with Pwnt. :p

All you need to do is make it to the 50 mile mark. Well... then there would be no point in turning around. Same distance either way. :p
Oh and I'm not exactly sure how I will fare. Haven't been riding a lot lately.
I will be fine guys. I am quite abit stronger then I was at Elephant Rock. Flagstaff has modded me into the chiseled cycling athlete that I am today. I give you all permission to suck my wheel if need be. :D :D :D :D

Oh and Bill you wrote about the new bike on you Bike Journal Log. I do miss stalking you though, just so ya know. :D

d'oh. I guess I did, didn't I? :p
I just about had to twist her arm to get her out into the parking lot to try it... then I couldn't get her back off of it! She made me ride with her down to get an ice cream, then when we got back, she rode it in circles around the condo complex.
I guess that means she likes it! :D

So titillating! um......
Does this mean I need to join BJ?
I am already stalking pwnt on RBR.
That and I think I may pull a 180 and try a randonuer ride next year. (yes I know I butchered the spelling)

Great ride everyone! What's next?

I am leaning towards something easy like golden canyon though I am sure that will change as next Saturday approaches.

BM,
How did evans go? God I wish I was able to make that one.
I created a login at bikejournal.com and joined club hypoxia. Any specifics on how one gets a jersey? More rides, etc?

1) My ride fell through and I missed the Mt. Evans ride today. I'm also not going to be able to make the Hypoxia ride tomorrow... so... Being me, I figured I'd combine the climbing as well as the distances from the two rides and tomorrow I'm gonna attempt Mt Evans from my house. 104 miles, 12,400 ft of climbing. Wish me luck! It's the LAST day that the Mt Evans summit road will be open, so... It's tomorrow or never. I'll be leaving my house at 6:30 and hoping to summit by noon.
2) You JUST missed the jersey order... they're pretty popular, so there will probably be another order before too long.

:D thanks for the fun ride you guys... nice to finally meet you in real life!
I did too get tired, but nothing that 3 consecutive servings of chocolate ice cream couldn't fix. bmclaughlin807 would rip all our legs off if his bike didn't weigh as much as my bike, Pwnt's and datajunkie's combined.
bmclaughlin807, if you would rather do the hypoxia ride, I'm doing it, if you can make it to Boulder by 7:00 am I can get you to Loveland & back.

I was tired and worked up at the same time last night. Consequently I slept like crap. Too tired to sleep? Wierd.
Guess my training is paying off. It was nice hanging at the front of the pack for once. Too bad I almost bonked and pulled like an idjit. :p

Not unless I wanna camp on your porch for 4 hrs. *crinkles his nose*
Anyway, tomorrow is the LAST day this year that the Mt Evans summit road will be open... if I don't do it now, I may never get the chance.
I see that Data and Valygrl joined Club Hypoxia.:D
I was pondering doing the same thing. The problem is, I really dont use BikeJournal all that often. I am always forgetting to enter my ride info. How strict are they on that stuff Bill? Also, I would really like to get one of those jerseys as well. What an excellent design, props to whoever came up with that one.

I think bikejournal is what you get out of it. Not that makes any sense.
It appears that the mileage helps your clubs ranking and your ranking.
However, I have not done a good job keeping track this year and have no clue what my yearly mileage is.
So, the mileage reported will be what I accrue from now on out.
Should be a helpful training aid.
I'm thinking that I may start a monthly goal of 1 century for 12 months. September check.
I am wondering how Dec-Feb will work out. I suppose I can find a clear 10 mile route and ride it 10 times on my touring bike.

Log what you log. Nobody really cares. It's your log, use it however you want.
Club Hypoxia is a group of friends that like to ride together. They're a great bunch of people, much like the great bunch of people over here.
Anyway... I bailed on the attempt at Mt Evans... I haven't recovered from the Peak to Peak plus the weather wasn't looking cooperative (All I saw looking west was clouds... even at daybreak)
I rode a modified Lariat loop, instead, with stops to check out some of the parks along the way.. Mt Falcon, O'Fallon, Corwina, Lair O' the Bear, etc.
I joined. :D
I wanna jersey please. Sign me up for that too. <looks for the "spankin dat a55" smiley>

Oh thank god. I was beginning to think you were superhuman. :p
How someone could do both of those rides back to back is beyond me.
Though I suppose anything is possible looking at the 1000km brevets.

I rode with Club Hypoxia today, we had 3 flats, 1 lumpy tire, 1 out of true wheel, one broken derailler cable, 1 hour of sitting in Subway waiting for the rain to stop, 5 new rain jackets purchased b/c the rain didn't stop, and an awesome time.
:)

Yeah, well... I was in a lot better shape a couple months ago. I'd have been able to do it then. :p
Anyway... I had a great ride. With no flats or other mechanical problems. I also didn't have to use my rain jacket (which I did have with me)
