Finally found my Photobucket password in the spam filter. Here's a shot of my bike. I've put 97 miles on it so far with no complaints. The frame feels quick and responsive. It's quieter and smoother than the Zonal aluminum. I'm not certain it will replace my steel Ron Cooper as my favorite. I'll shorten some cable housings and probably shorten the steerer soon.

was it ever found out for certain if this is the same frame as the pedal force rs but with a different weave?

Every measurement on this bike matches that of the Pedalforce RS. The weave seems to be the only visible difference. Mine sure rides nice! That's what really matters. :)

Very nice. Give us a ride report when you can.

I'm loving mine; nice and stiff on the hills and very comfortable on the longer rides. I'm quite happy.

I do believe these Bottecchia frames and the new Motobecane frames are the same, just with different decals:http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/images/centuryteam08_600.jpg (http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/images/centuryteam08_2100.jpg)http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/a3/88/0c7c_12.JPG (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190163997948&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting)
Anybody agree? And also is there gonna be another group buy for these frames and if not how much are they?

Possibly, but mine came delivered in the original box with Bottecchia written all over the outside of the box. If they are the same, they are packaged differently from the factory in Taiwan, not just labeled differently once they enter the US.

The frames (without fork) were $400 during the group buy, now $450 I think. The weblinks from the first post in this thread were still linked a few days ago. That price included shipping.

They are ~.4 lbs heavier, and have different fibers besides the cosmetic outer weave... so it is a lower end frame, made from the same mold. Might be more durable though.

Granted, that may be the case. I've just not seen enough "real" data versus the claimed weights to be sure. Either way, I'm very happy with mine. It's a much better ride now than what I had before.

I was doing some interval training this morning, and clocked new times that I had not thought possible before on the hilly part of my morning route. Hills are a blast on this bike! The frame and cranks I had before had more flex; the stiffer ride makes the hills a lot more fun.

Thanks! Due to the fire in Southern Cal, I still don't have a chance to ride it yet. I am hoping that it will ride better than my old bike which is a Al frame with carbon seat stay.

My frame arrived today. :) The packing is very good. All portions of the frame are well supported. I dig that.

Pulling it out of the box, the frame looks great upon first inspection. The weave pattern looks great, and the lack of decals is exciting. I have no parts for it right now, and will spend some time really thinking about what to hang on it. It's cross season right now, so the current roadie will do fine.

This is a real deal! Can't wait to build and ride.

Some bikesdirect.com stickers would be pretty cool. This was mentioned before, just wanted go +1 on that notion.

This will be built up with parts taken from a Trek 1000 (quit laughing....I put 5500 miles on it in 15 months...then upgraded, see next paragraph).

It will be my 'rain bike' to save wear and tear on a new '07 Trek Pilot 5.2. (Another 1070+ miles on it since August 31st).

Since it's about to start raining here for the next week or so, I should have time to work on it.

I'll post pictures when it is a real bike.

OK, finally got the bike build finished and on the road today, about a 36 miler. Beautiful day on the central Oregon coast...cold overnight, some frost in places, but warmed up nicely by about 10:30/11AM.

Rode into town to meet a fellow rider and we head out on our usual 25+ route (farther for me as I have to ride to the 'start'). Bit of a headwind heading up our local river, then a tailwind on the return, but then a headwind (now cooler) for me to get back home, but only about 3.5 miles worth.

As mentioned above, the parts were taken from a Trek 1000 (for now), so it isn't the worlds lightest build, but it rides much better than the aluminum T-1000, but not quite as smooth as the Pilot. It is very straight line stable (more so than the Pilot!) but will still turn nicely. Had it up to 40+ on a local hill already, and it was rock steady.

Picture:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x247/Skip_H/PICT0018.jpg

The yellow water bottle cage will be going away, for a nice pair of black Bontrager cages. The stem might get "flipped" later, or a slightly shorter flatter one put on. The headset spacers might get shorter also, but I started it out high for the time being. It's easy to go down, much harder to go higher.

I'm already shopping for componet upgrades for next spring...

Sorry for the shadows in the picture...but there was this strange thing lighting up the sky today. I'll wait for our usual cloudy, drizzly day to try again.

I have about 600 miles on mine, and it's a fabulous ride. Just finished my first century this past weekend. I was comfortable for the whole ride, and had a lot left to give. My riding partner slowed (a slight bonk), so I didn't get to push it much. But I stayed very comfortable all day.

Additional comments to post #165:

Since then, I've put 350 miles on the build.

Ride wise, if my Trek Pilot 5.2 ride smoothness is a "10", the ADK frame is about an 8 or 8.5. The Trek 1000 (aluminum frame, carbon fork) was about a 4. The difference on broken pavement or very rough pavement surfaces is very pronounced. Many of our main local road here suffer from asphalt wash-out...that is the ashphalt disolves away from the rocks in it, resulting in a surface that looks like loose gravel in places, but is really just the rocks sticking out of the asphalt base. Other places it is cracked into paving block size chunks. The Pilot is very smooth over these surfaces, the BD/ADK frame is real close. The Trek 1000 bounced me all over the place. Both CF frames make going over rail road tracks almost a pleasure.

Handling wise, the ADK frame is very straight-line stable, not at all 'twitchy', and is stable at up to 50mph (on a very steep local hill). Hands off at any speed above about 6-8mph is no problem. It seems to handle corners well, but I don't race or take 90 degree corners at high speed so I can't speak to how it might be for a crit bike. However, we have some very short twisty downhill roads (1/2 mile or so) and it does fine on those as fast as I want to go (on dry pavement).

I did get the stem "flipped" and lowered some since the original picture, and the black bottle cages on it.

All-in-all, it's making a very good 'rain' bike, and I already have almost all the components I need to upgrade the drive-train to 9 speed except some brifters...they are the most costly parts. I'll probably do that in the spring, using the 8 speed stuff for the winter.

So...

The Bottecchia bikes sold on ebay wouldn't be a bad deal at all considering $1,650 price AND 90% Shimano Dura-Ace groupset.

I sure am loving mine. 507 miles and 12,590 feet of climbing since I bought mine. I think I'm going to buy another one and build it up as a pure climbing bike... it's very comfortable. More so than my '08 Trek Madone 5.5 and argiably just as confortable as my old Project One Trek Pilot 5.2.

Your frame build ups look great! Enjoy!

First of all, I am sorry to Bikedirect .com. For the price I don't think it would cause so much. Only frame is about 350USD, with fork is 380USD, Frame+Fork+Stem=430USD, Frame+Fork+Stem+Handbar=500USD. This is the current market price.

For self design decal (photoes; picture you choose), it is 152USD for one model ( in 50set).

Last, Please don't close my file. I just join this discussing.

27.2 mm

Isn't that the seat post diameter? I only see 28.6, 31.8, and 34.9mm, when choosing the size of a seat clamp. If the sizes are meant to be flush with the seat tube, I assume a 34.9mm would be required for this particular frame, right? But I want to be sure.

Seat POST is a 27.2mm

Seat post CLAMP is a 30.0mm

There is an aluminum 'shim' inside the seat tube that the seat post fits in. It sticks about 1/2" above the actual seat tube. See the picture:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x247/Skip_H/adv-cf-wf3.jpg

So the clamp is clamping the aluminum shim to the seat post.

You will not be clamping on the carbon fiber seat tube

These pictures of many of the built up Bottechias look great. I have in my notes from this offering that the frames come in around 2.6 pounds (53cm), but I don't have any weight for the forks. Since BTD is making the offering again on the Christmas specials and I considering going for it this time, does anyone have the rough weights for the frame and fork put together? I am sure it is buried in this thread somewhere, but I don't want to read the whole thing again. Thanks!!

I never got a chance to weigh the frame but the forks are pretty hefty at 570 grams. I'm about to change mine out and then I'm done with my build. I'm at 15.035 pounds as it sits with heavy fork (the pic doesn't have the Dura-Ace FC-7800 crankset installed at that time). I'll change out the current pics with the Dura-Ace cranks tommorow (I need to buy some AA batteries for my digital camera!)

Any half-decent LBS can order it. Performance and Nashbar both have them . Lat I checked Performance had both a Shimano and a Campagnolo version for $14 or so. I've seen them as cheap as $7-8, though. You'll probably see them in some places labeled in English instead of Metric, i.e., the 34.9 mm will be labeled as 1 3/8 ". They're equivalent.

Just a follow up and bump...

I installed the Salsa Liplock and so far everything is fine. I've only ridden it a couple times in front of the house but it seems to be holding up well.

So I'll keep using it unless it starts to slip on me. Hopefully JayC gets his problem solved so he can enjoy his bike.

Now I just need to find a 10spd cassette... I'm using a 9spd for now, hence my limited riding.
