Trek Madone SL 5.2. I just thought it was such a good deal for a whole bike vs. the price for a custom Ti Frame (I bought the Sola before I had a mortgage and two kids).

Should have just bought a custom Seven in the first place as my road bike, but I ended up with a Merlin Works CR eventually, so I'm happy.

After we bought our very first house [in Texas]. We thought, OMG! We have a mortgage now!!! What were we thinkin'!?!

Of course back then we were debt free... not anymore!

Then after a year on my bike I find out there are better aluminum bikes that were also in my price range... had I researched better or posted more regularly on BF back in Jan 2006 when I first was looking for an affordable first bike. doh!!

When ordering my bike I was stuck between colors. The frame is silver and I was trying to find out a color that would make it "pop" other than black. So I called the LBS and said..."What would be better, a blue or a red theme?" Knowing that I liked red, he said red. Even had red nipples put on the wheels. I should have had it done in pink. Like this one.

Honestly, I feel that whatever mistake I make in buying something I can always earn more money and fix it.

Only thing I wish I had done different was to buy a prebuilt mtb instead of doing a custom build, until I knew more about bikes.

A specialized fsr would have been nice.

A 1965 MG Midget - mid-life crisis mobile. I bought it with a blown engine, thinking it would just take a while to rebuild. A while turned into 3+ years, and I still don't drive it often enough to keep it reliable (older cars actually need to be driven often to remain reliable). May be time to sell it to someone who will use it.

I'm still rocking the Treo 650 -- upgrade isn't in the budget this year. But my friends with the Windows version complain all the time. Like the iPhone, I'm willing to wait till the bugs are worked out before I make that investment.

May be time to sell it to someone who will use it.If I thought there was a chance in hell I could fit into a Midget, my ears would have just perked up, despite what you said about the thing. ;)

As for buyer's remorse: I bought a track frame with a threadless steerer/fork, but by the time I took delivery of the thing, I realized that I really would have preferred the threaded model. Feh, oh well.

I was thinking the same thing... I have the same cage, and as soon as I left I thought.. what do I care about grams? I suck, I don't count grams, WHY do I have this cage? Although its still on the bike and works just fine, so I guess I'm over it. Kinda...

The midget was surprisingly roomy - I'm 5'10'' and there's room to move the seat back another inch or so. I didn't use the original seats or tracks, which lets me put the seat further back. Width is another issue - it's not a wide car at all.

I love driving it - I just don't seem to get it out on the road enough.

JB, I'm in the same boat.

I bought this car back in 2003. It's been a lifelong dream to own one of these. I drove it like I stole it for a couple of years. Learned how to modify it. Autocrossed and tracked it. Now I don't have time for it. Can't sell it for what I've spent on it. Can't even sell it for what I paid for it. I still really love the car but I just don't have time for it anymore.

JBI'm 6'2", so it'd probably be snug, though I'm not wide. My dad is a few inches shorter than I, and he had a Midget many years ago. He says if he were to buy an MG today, he'd go for a B. I do like small, impractical cars, though. ;)

Speaking of automobile-related remorse, almost a year ago, I realized that I could finally get the car I've wanted all of my life, an original Volkswagen Beetle. Unfortunately, I rushed into the purchase and pretty much bought the first one to come along. It ran for about two weeks. Now it sits in the garage waiting for me to either fix it, or replace it with one in a bit better shape.

Less than a week in. I researched for 3 months on how to spend 2-3k on my roadie. Had it narrowed down to 2 nice ones but got impatient waiting for '08's. Ended up with a sweet Scott CR-1 team bike for the same money. It's a good bike, but it wasn't in the running before that day. Don't know what it is...just not what I was looking for. I feel bad enough about it I'll probably drop it on ebay within the month. A fool and his money are soon parted.......

As the one-time owner of a 1966 MGB, I can tell you definitively that it is not possible to drive them to reliability. You may get more miles between breakdowns/major repairs, but they occurs just as frequently.

Well, it's not bike related, but I once traded my best-shooting longbow for a prettier one that shocks the living crap out of my bow arm. The only arrows it will shoot that don't thump are 700 grain Ash shafts, but their weight makes 'em drop like rocks past 25 yards.

A couple months later, the same guy who took my GOOD bow put it up for sale. I bought it back - for more than I'd paid for it originally.

Bicycling stuff - gee, lemme see. Anything I regret buying?

Well, I once had an LBS rebuild a wheel I wrecked in a crash, then 1 month later rebuilt the bike with non-compatible components, so I ended up with a wheel I never use.

Then there are the 5 different saddles I bought before I found my personal Saddle Nirvana.

Then there's the wool jersey that briefly fit me ("Merino wool doesn't shrink!" Bullcrap.)

Then there's the SweatVac skullcap I bought, hoping it would work better than the bandanas I usually use. Instead, it dripped WORSE!

LOL - I'd have to agree, although if you are driving it you tend to make sure fluids are topped up (hydraulic, shock, carb, engine oil, etc.) which minimizes a lot of problems with these cars. When they're sitting around, the stuff just evaporates.

I once bought a Minolta. :(

Not buyers remorse, sellers remorse.

I started out with Minolta, a Maxxum 3xi (bought in Hong Kong) that I really liked.
I acquired a Maxxum 7 in preparation for the digital version the 7D which never appeared.
It was a beautiful camera. I kept waiting for the Minolta DSLR but nothing.

I finally gave up and sold all my Minolta kit for Nikon at the loss of lots of $$ :(

Yes, we should hijack this and make it the camera remorse thread.

My Mamiya RB67 kit was not quite $11,000. But I got nearly AU$2k (US$1,200 at the time) for it when I sold it.

Canon EOS D30 - US$3,300 new, sold for AU$800, with a $200 Pelican case.

Here's the irony though. My cameras paid for themselves long before I sold them. I also got to depreciate them on my taxes. So really, if you look at what happened while I owned and used them, I have nothing to complain about. With my used bikes though, the loss doesn't even bother me. Good times on them all.
