I am building up a Cross Check now with all the parts to make it a single speed.
Cantilever Brakes, Drops, Levers, Chris king Headset, Sugino Crankset. What is an average cost for an entry level wheelset and rear deraileur (sp?). I am debating going right to a 1x9 or 1x8. Any suggestions are welcome.

The existence of the internet makes it very difficult to determine how much things cost. Sorry.
How long did it take you to come up with that clever reply? I was inquiring more if people had suggestions on good entry level wheelsets or groups they have had good luck with? Thank you very much for your help though, it is greatly appreciated. I welcome any feedback you have.
Just a guess.....200 bucks.....
You can usually get a nice set of Ultegra hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro rims for somewhere in the $225 to $250 range. If you like Campy Scirocco are in the low $300 range. If you don't have a Campy fetish, like me, go with Shimano. It works great is very reasonably priced. Good luck

i had a set of wheels built locally for $150. Deore disc hubs, 700c Sun CR-18 rims and stainless DT Swiss straight gague spokes. so i'd check your LBS and see what they quote.

OP's to Ultegra's for 200 on Performance yesterday.
I have found Bontrager Race or Select wheelsets to be be bullet proof and a good bang for the buck.

Ultegras for $200 is a deal.

You could go cheaper again with less fancy hubs. Some reasonable wheelsets are around the $100 mark. Deore rear mechs are pretty nice.
