any body have any knowledge on us 23 from say tawas to makinaw? shoulders, road conditions, traffic, or possible alternative routes? thanks.

It doesn't really get that busy until you hit Cheboyagan, then between there and macinaw it gets pretty busy, but I have no idea on the condition of the road since I havn't been East of 75 up North in over 4 years.
