We need more fun threads.
I see some people calling themselves an "uber-clyde", some call it "mega-clyde", some say "super-clyde". There may be others I forgot (which is why I won't make it a poll).
Let's once and for all decide what the official syntactic designation is.
What do you think the term should be for a clyde over 300 pounds?
I vote for uber-clyde.
I am not in that class although I was certainly headed there before I started riding! But, I really like Uber-Clyde too.

I don't think you have to be in the category to vote...its just about what we think it should be so we are all on the same page with terminology. :)
I will say that I have received a tremendous amount of motivation from many an Uber-Clyde here who are more advanced, in better shape, and better riders than this newb 'half-uber-clyde'.
And what about women over 300? Or should it be women over 250, since "Athena" begins at a rather lean 150....
Aside: I was riding today, got a bit of a "hmmm" look from a petite, slim, muscley woman in full road gear. Felt down about it for a while, but then realized... In time, I'll be as muscley as she is, and she may always be faster up hills, but I'll always be stronger.
Im a few pounds under but I like Uber-Clyde as well...

I don't wanna be a nit picker here, but my german heritage can't leave this one alone.
It is actually ueber, or correctly spelled "über"-clyde :D
That was my informative post of the day. ;)

Whenever I get passed by a skinny guy, I always think to myself..."Strap 100 pounds to his back and I bet I am the one doing the passing." It may or may not be true but it makes me feel better anyway! :D

If he's bigger than me, the correct term is "Sir." :D

But... what is the meaning of the word Ueber?... One must assume that it means something similar to Mega, or super...
I like Mega Clyde myself, but then again I don't know the meaning of the word Ueber...

I bet she had a bit of respect too. It's always good when I see "larger" folks out on my rides. I always smile and say hi - they usually seem caught off-guard. They're not home on the couch getting worse - that is all positive. :) I saw a lady walking her bike a good 3 or 4 miles from the end of the trail this last weekend. She looked disgusted and ready to throw it in the bushes. I smiled and said hi on the way by - when I got to the end I turned around for another lap and met her again - she was riding this time looking very determined. I thought it was pretty cool.
By the way - if she had done the whole loop that is 18 miles round trip. Respectable distance for sure.

You'll be faster uphills after awhile. It's easier for larger people to build large muscle mass lower body because you are pushing weight around. As you build more endurance you'll get faster uphills. Your muscle mass is already bigger than her's (lower body).
There could be a "metric uber clyde", too....
ack! I didn't mean to hijack the thread! Sorry!
Yes, ueber means what you think it means :) It can also mean "over" as in "above."

I could go with uber-clyde then I guess... It just doesn't sound as strong as MEGA-CLYDE...

Regular clyde: Clyde 1.0. Mega: Clyde 1.5. 400+ : Clyde 2.0.
I'm struggling at about a Clyde 1.1 right now, shooting for 1.05 before the summer's out.

I'd not give them a special name. I'd make plans to get below 300 ASAP so it's not an issue. The Clyde/Athena is an actual class so valid - but beyond that..........

Yes, it was all just meant for fun. Nothing more really.
how about over 400= Megultra or Meguber Clyde, so as to combine the words instead of just hyphenating 2 words? :p
And wow I didn't realize Athena's started at 150, get a girl near 6' and I defy her to be below that weight and have the strength to even pick up a bike nevermind ride one. That does seem slim, I figured it started at 175 or higher than that as the minimum. Weird. Sorry just in a small bit of shock about that.

In time, I'll be as muscley as she is, and she may always be faster up hills, but I'll always be stronger. At one time I was the heaver, slower rider. Now, (occasionally) I'm not. When I see someone who is more challenged than I am, I give him/her a warm greeting and (if appropriate) words of encouragement. I want to make sure that the beginner knows some other riders do not look down on them, and that they are now in an informal fitness club.
At times I take my daughter on some of the Bike Club beginner rides. I enjoy helping her and the others who are starting out.
