New here and back on the saddle after a long absence. Loving the 25 mile round trip from Bellevue to Redmond and back several times a week i started to do a couple of months ago.

uhmmm.... you get wet and it gets harder to see? as a result the ride becomes a sort of soggy braille experience?

If you are, then the commuters keep on commuting, and everyone else goes indoors.

I've discovered that once I get out in the rain I do just fine. It's convincing myself to get out there and get going that can be hard sometimes.

Yup. Rain is not a big deal. Wipe the bike down when you get home, take your clothes off as soon as you get in, wash or keep separate from your clean clothes, and take a shower. Where's the problem in that?

That's funny - my Dad always told me something similar -- "What's the matter, does your skin leak?". ;)

I don't think the topic of rain ever came up in our house--being from Manchester, England, my parents (even in California) did not think that rain was at all unusual, and the idea that it would stop activities was absurd!

However, I have to contribute a parental saying, so here it is:

"You'd be hot too if you'd just come out of a hot oven".

last year in seattle seventeen people fell off their bikes..... and drowned !!

East, you are from Manchester? Cool. I spent a lot of time in Liverpool for work, Manchester is certianly a much nicer city :)

Seriously, you can actually enjoy riding in rain--not the nasty, vicious, slashing, pummel you about the head rain, but a soft, gentle rain is actually rather contemplative.

Alf, technically I'm from Swinton (born at home!), my father was from Barton upon Irwell, me mum from Moss Side (long before it became what it is now :eek: ).

If you were working in Liverpool, you can handle rain in Seattle, trust me on this :) .
