So, my wife and I are going to try our first 8hr Tag Team race and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what and when to eat (before, during and after). We have been doing some 24 hr races (5+ member teams) and weeknight races, so I am confident in our skills and fitness, so I don't need advice like "make sure you are training x times per week" etc. but I'm not really sure what to eat.
My gut feeling is to have carbs for breakfast like oatmeal or bagels. What about yogurt and granola? I was thinking that we would try to eat a bunch of fruit during the race, but I'm not really too sure about that. Actually I'm not really sure about any of it.
Any help?
Also if you have any other tips for tag team 8 hr races, feel free to throw them in.

I did a 12 hour not too long ago and each one of us would use a recovery drink (Hammer Nutrition Recoverite) once we got done with a lap. This was nice because it was not heavy and has the "proper" mix, whatever that means, of carbs and protein. We supplimented with carb type snacks and had PB&J and turkey sandwiches if anyone needed anything else.
This was a four man team with about 45 minutes a lap though so we had pleanty of time for a sandwich to digest and not weigh us down, if eaten shortly after getting off the trail. I was one of the few that had a sandwich but really, it was probably unneccessary with the recoverite after a lap. I didn't necessarily feel hungry but thought I needed to eat something.
Really though, with your experience in 24 hour races and such, if you stick to that game plan, it may work fine since your body is used to it.
