I woke up this morning not feeling too great. I couldn't sleep last night because of my knee swelling pain and I was tired. I felt like calling in to work sick today, but I decided to be the good employee and head in. Little did I know this was a mistake....
About 8/10 miles of the trip to work, about 500ft before an intersection, I noticed my car starting to get very loud. Then came the crescendo...
THe sound of metal dragging against the ground :fight:. I pull over, hazard lights on. The joint from my tail pipe to catalytic converter flange (welded in place) has completely failed and snapped off. I think about calling AAA service, but I remember that there is a very good muffler shop that my parents use nearby. Luckily, I was only 1.5 miles away! So I crawl there, and I am told that I won't have my car all day, that I can pick it up at 5:00PM. I call and somebody from work picks me up. She told me "You know, it seems like you're having a bad day. BUt I'll tell you, when these things happen, they come in 3's". I said "No way, I don't believe that". I was being your typical naive 18 year old at this point.
I go into work, and the production manager goes "BERNIE BERNIE BERNIE". Everything's leaking, the lathe isn't working right, our ionizing blow off gun isn't working, and they need it all now. Apparently the production engineer, who normally comes in at 7AM, was not coming in 'till 11. So I came in around 9, and people were very unhappy because nobody knows how to fix anything themselves there and the production was held up.
I did call my doctor about the knee. THe receptionist said I can't get in until Friday. I was hoping for an earlier appointment, but I didn't have a car anyways I guess. I go into the company 'fridge around 1 (after the production people have eaten lunch), and am told somebody ate my lunch! WTF?! Instead of grilled chicken, I eat PB&J.
Luckily, my car repair only cost me 66 dollars. I go home to call our doctor again to find the phone isn't working. THere's no dial tone anywhere in the house. I go outside to find that the phone line to the house has been snapped. One of the neighbors tells me that during the day, a large utility truck drove by and the carriage piece caught the phone line and snapped it without even realizing it.
I just want this day to end, but it's too early to fall asleep on my own. Is there some sure way I can tire myself out so I can go to bed soon?
