Recreational & Family - 24 inch tire hybrids?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My daughter has been bitten by the cycling bug really bad. She insists that I take her on rides. Of course, I think this is a great development. She has grown enough that she needs a 24 inch tire bike. I have seen the Trek 220, but it is a mountain bike. Does anyone make a bike that is closer to a hybrid? I would like to have something maybe a little lighter and with smooth rolling tires. I think a small road bike may be too much for her to handle.

I saw one just the other day - also a Trek. The catch was the $429 price tag. Sorry, I don't remember the model #.

Trek has a 24" wheeled FX series hybrid, but a bit pricey, but highly resellable after she grows out of it. I bought a 13" frame Trek 3500 for my son last June, only to have him grow out of it in a year. I bought it for $250, then sold it for $155 and kept the computer and seat bag for his new 16" frame Specialized Rockhopper.

Check out BMX cruisers, they are a lightweight 24" rigid bike.
