BMX - BMX Wheel Choice Questions...

I'm looking for everyones opinion, I'm just getting back into riding and trying to get a new set-up. I tried to search for info on this topic with no real luck.

What does everyone think about the use of 1.125" and 1.5" width wheels on BMX? What are their uses and what are they best suited for? Also, what brands are quality? I'm about 5'10" 175 lb, would they be too weak for me?

Also, I'm looking at some wheels that are 1.75" width Sumo single wall alloy rims with dimples and K.T. large flange loose ball bearing hubs. Does anyone know anything about these? They any good?

They're junk, wheels are no place to skimp.

Drop some cash and just get some hazard light rims.

Are you talking about the Sumo/KT wheels? What about Sun wheels in 1 1/8" width? Will those be too weak for a guy my size?

Yes.
Rims under 1.75" width are pretty much just for racing. Mostly seen on mini, jr or expert sized bikes.

As was mentioned, 1 1/8 rims are race rims for kids. They are not junk by any stretch of the imagination. They range from 100.00 for ones with heavy flip flop hubs and cheap rims up to over a 1000 for light cassette hubs, titanium spokes, etc. Most have a rider weight limit of 125 - 135 lbs and the biggest tire they will accept is a 1 3/8. 1.5's are the next step up for riders that are looking to keep the weight down while they grow into a full size race bike, these usually have a weight limit as well.

No experience with the wider rims that you mentioned but they are at least in the appropriate size for a full size rider.

Thats still a bit high in price but you guys are helping me figure out which brands are quality. So maybe I can find a used set on ebay or something. Keep the suggestions coming, thanks guys.

That's actually really cheap for a quality front wheel. Buying a used wheel is something you may want to stay away from. You never know how much it was abused.

Do you guys really think those Sumo/K.T. wheels are trash? They're not even decent?

Unsealed=Why I broke my hand in September, and possibly again a few weeks ago but I hit my head hard enough not to remember.

At my local shop there are some rims that have Redline sealed hubs on Alex DM24 double wall rims, and they're $70 Canadian, see if you can find them online.

Ok, so I want double wall rims and sealed hubs. That makes sense.
