There is a reason they call those things 'Crackberries" My wife has one and she is constantly sending and receiving stuff on her "days off" and weekends. It is not uncommon for her to spend 20 or 30 minutes on that thing as we go out for dinner or drive to the lake. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!! I do not like intrusive technology.

I don't understand those who use them that way. I have a Blackberry. I almost NEVER send emails with it when I'm out....I rarely even check email even when I hear one *ding* that it came in.

Don't you love how technology has saved us all time? :(

Take your boss out for a beer. If he lays the crackberry on the table, "accidentally" spill a beer on it.
That should take care of it for a while.

In my job I am required to carry my cell phone EVERYWHERE I go and be on call 24 hours a day. It's my day off, my third one this week, and the third time this week I've had to come into work on my day off. Be lucky you are just getting messages and not wake up calls and him telling you to come to work.

Are you available for counseling? If so, what is your hourly rate?

You are the master of your domain.

Nuthin like sitting with a group of three people recently - I didn't have my phone - but two others had cells, the other had a blackberry. Together the three of them texted and e-mailed and ugh it didn't stop.

i just feel bad for him because he's in charge of a very stressful department, and i think the blackberry is the LAST thing he needs. seriously, i've been getting things at 2am! what the hell?! and he still works a regular 8-10 hour day at office.

yeah, he's based out of San Francisco. Also, he has a medical condition so i'm not sure if he can even drive or not.

Crackberry addiction is a medical condition, now?

I guess it would be tough to drive with the thing permanently affixed to your hands...

Why do you think every employee at RIM (I'm very close to them) gets a free one?

They get you for 40 hours per week on site, and the remaining hours you work (and you do) you work for free without realizing it.

I know a middle manager there - when he gets in to work on Monday morning, there's no such thing as 'catching up'. He's expected to know exactly what went on over the weekend since he's been monitoring the emails.

Personally I'd turn the sucker off when I left work and only turn it on to make free phone calls out.

The mental part (addiction) is not. I did read somewhere that a lot of people are having problems with their hands due to overuse of the thumbs related to blackberries.

Start printing them out, and put your answers on them; when he/she sees how big the stack is, maybe the excess will dawn on them.

Unfortunately you are wrong.. I get bombarded by peoples cryptic blackberry messages while on their drive home. Actually the only time my bike commute has caused a problem is when they kept messaging and calling me with questions and I had to stay on a call for half an hour and they said ok are you home yet to logon?? Uh sorry no I'm sitting on a park bench I can't ride while I problem solve work issues.

yes, it's these damn type A people out there that are demanding to be kept in touch all the time. so, companies respond with products like this. then you "need" to have one, otherwise you risk being out of touch and not being able to keep up.

it's like doping in the peloton.

i wonder how many people out there get passed up on promotions because they're not as 'accessable' as a co-worker is.

the worst part is the onset of antiscrollitis. Send a crackberryholic an email with more than three lines and they'll never scroll to read. ugh.

Blackberry's don't bother me at all. I use one myself. I like being able to contact the boss at his Blackberry when I'm at a meeting and I need some immediate information.

I wasn't looking forward to getting a blackberry when our office converted to them in January of 2006. I've got to say though that I love it now. The ability to stay in touch when out on the road is awesome. For shorter business trips, I don't even take my laptop now as I can do just about everything I need with just the Blackberry.

Of course my free time is still my time, so come 6:00pm during the week and on weekends mine is put in the off position.

Tell those guys with the "this message was sent from a blackberry" thing that the auto signature can be edited. I changed mine to my contact info for my office. Looks just like any other email I would send now.

I know.. But this one guy insists on keeping it and I hate him even more for keeping up with it..
