Had my first real crash today. I was doing my last long ride before my oly on Sept 16th. Went almost 37 miles. Went off the road earlier in my ride and my front tire started going down. Didn't realize how bad it was until I was leaving the park. I turned and the front tire slid and the bike just came out from under me. Just very minor scrapes on my leg but I'm glad I had a helmut on because I banged my melon off the path. Thought everything was cool with the bike until I got going and noticed that I bent my back rim. Hope they can fix it, doesn't look too bad.

Good call on the helmet. Now if anyone asks why use a helmet, you can say you wear one all the time, but have only used it once. :)

Sorry to hear. Same thing happened to me today. Had an awesome ride to work and as I get in front of my work my tire get stuck on the railroad tracks and eats me. Just a few bloody spots on the elbow and knee. Bike appears fine. 2 more hours and the ride home will tell the truth.

That's probably the best crash you could hope for. You got on a bike and fell over? That's like a 5 year old's crash when they are starting to learn to ride.

I was going about 15mph it was like I hit a patch of ice. Kinda like sliding into second base. It happened very fast.

Sounds like you got lucky too! The LBS said that I need a new wheel but I don't have the cash right now so I went home and messed with the spokes and got it pretty damn straight. Enough to get me through the next few weeks I hope. They want to sell me a set of Bontrager Select Aero for $250 installed. Anybody have these wheels? Are they worth it?

The title of this thread begs the question, has anyone ever been having a terrible ride until they crashed? ;)

I had my rear wheel pop in and out of a drainage slot on the side of the road and desroyed it 1 week before a race. I went to my LBS and they sold me a pair of those. I had to race on them for two races, both sprint distance, before i could get the money together for my new racing wheels. For being semi aero i didnt notice much difference from my rolfs i used to ride. I use them as my training set now, I have no complaints virtually indestructable. I have hit a few nasty potholes and they still hold true. I have roughly 1600+ miles on them and the bearings are still super smooth.

Thanks for the note. I guess anything would be an upgrade from the stock wheels on my 1000. I asked for an upgraded wheel instead of replacing with the stock wheel for $60.
