View Full Version : eBike myth destroyed
Myth: "You don't get any real physical and health benefits from riding an eBike"
Tell that to my waist line! I just bought some new jeans over the lunch hour and found that I'm now back to my old 34" waist line. My waist line was sitting at 36" for the last 5 years.
The only physical exercise that I've been doing since I last bought a pair of jeans has been biking (eBiking to be exact).
I just love destroying these ridiculous eBike myths put forth by "purist" who are scared of technology. Makes me laugh everytime I think about it; "Oh noes! The Terminators on eBikes are going to conquer the world  "

But could you have been down to a 32 inch waist with a regular bike?
But could you have been down to a 32 inch waist with a regular bike?
Maybe, but he'll probably be down to a 32 if he keeps at it. It doesn't take a training ride to get good exercise.
Yes a normal bike may lower weight quicker but only if it was used regularly, it is easier to be motivated with an ebike.
If E-bikes were for lazy people, then clearly cars, motorcycles, buses, etc would be for super-lazy people.
But it really depends on how you use them.

No, cause he would've been too tired to keep it up. That's the great thing about e-bikes. It keeps you biking more often. Good for you. Good for us. Good for the environment.

I've never had a 32 inch waistline in my entire adult life. 34 inch is more normal for my size. If you want to be an ectomorph biker then fine. But I prefer to be a mesomorph and so does my GF. 34 inch is just fine.
Anyway... the point was: eBikes do help you get exercise and lose weight (and belly fat). Contrary to the stupid myths out there that think that ebikes are for lazy fat people.
Sure a regular bike will make you work more. No denying that! But I will deny any ridiculous purist who thinks eBikes don't help one's health.

Heck, I just got back from a trip to the bank and forgot to power-up for a couple blocks before realizing the Panasonic drive wasn't even on. LOL... 'Moral is - I must be getting some exercise because my legs aren't noticing assist, or lack of, anymore? Of course, the Panasonic is a polite drive unit so it never drives like a throttle bike but the range - rode almost 25 miles yesterday using 24V/15AH with some left over. Gotta get a better seat but waiting until I know my eventual size!
Yep, any excersize is better than none...

I doubt many people ride their ebikes like a motocross racer.

I doubt many people ride their ebikes like a motocross racer. only because there aren't any on the market that are powerfull enough AND take the abuse.

Don't be a weeny. Regular bikes will never have wide appeal because it sucks pedaling them up steep hills and it's also too damned slow....

:roflmao:
Regular bikes have always had wide appeal.

A lot of people don't understand that ebikes, or electrically assisted bikes, as I prefer, are for extending ranges and making commute times more consistant. Before my ebike I could only occassionally ride my 24 km commute. The times ranges from 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hours depending on headwinds and other conditions. Now I'm a consistant 1 hour no matter the weather.
Anyone who wants to tell me I'm lazy, I invite you to come on my commute with me, or just the first hill.
My hobby is touring and I find I'm more in shape now for my touring because I've got the consistant 1,000 kms a month under my belt.

i've lost weight from mine too.
I use my ebike for short commutes and CAR REPLACEMENT trips. Already saved $10 in petrol, and found i'm enjoyed the journey a lot more. Im currently upgrading the 408 motor with a disc, and a part has to be fabricated. I'm also upgrading the wire on the controller while this occurs - its been 3 days without an ebike i miss it already :S
I don't use it as my primary form of transport, but it makes for a good relaxing (or recovery) ride. btw i train 3 times a week on the road bike too.
The ebike is certainly not for lazy people. its fantastic for popping to the shops and wanting to look like a normal person that doesn't drip and stink of sweat.
