I saw this. Heartbreaking. 14 and on his way to school and a 20 year old hit him. Both of those young lives permanently altered. I agree...be careful out there.

Awful beyond imagination for that family - my thoughts and prayers are with them all.

Wow, that's sad.

I live about a mile and half from there.

That just goes to show you how unpredictable life can be. Very sad, it brings a tear to my eye. Now that I have children of my own, these stories just hit me hard. :( Great now I'm crying...

Wearing helmets, in the bike lane...doing all the right things huh...

Yes...when the young ones get killed and you are a parent yourself...

That must be an ocean of tears.

I saw that in the OC Register today and almost couldn't even bring myself to read it. My daughter will be (maybe not now) riding her bike to that school next year. Her soccer practice is at that school and when I was leaving there tonight, there were people out where it happened putting up a memorial, with pictures, posters and there must have been hundreds of candles. It's too, too horrible to even comprehend what the parents are going through at this moment.

Pray for them, they will need it.

That was a tough read.

Smiled through the tears at the mention of his buddies teasing him for finally ditching the mullet, but so, so sad.

Sounds like a great kid. Great parents, no doubt. A grievous loss for them.

It was lovely that the writer of that article took the time to tell us about the boy behind the story, and honor him and his loved ones that way.

And as ME mentioned, the young man behind the wheel will have his life altered as well. Another sadness.

Super close to home for 1955 in many ways. I hear that.
