Do you guys like the "distressed" look that Specialized used on the Black Sand paint scheme (2007 Tricross Comp)? I'm not crazy about it, but the bike and price were so good that I went with it. At first I thought this "new" bike was a return that was test driven pretty hard.
For those not familiar, Specialized added patches of artificial scratches to the finish, apparently along the lines of the used jeans look from the Gap. The LBS said it helps prevent thefts in larger cities as the bike looks roughed in and therefore doesn't stand out.

I have a 2007 Tricross Comp like you describe. No, I don't like it. I would like it better if it were done on a flat black bike. A worn look to a glossy black bike doesn't make sense.
I too got a deal that I couldn't pass up.
I thought that the artificially abused look only came in the Tricross Sport??? I didn't like that paint scheme. I would ride it if I got a good deal but given a choice I'd go with another color.
For 2008 Specialized has done away with that paint scheme. I like the flat black on my 2008 Tricross Sport.
The 2007 model really looked like a experiment. The 2008 model went back to the 2006 paint scheme and the double. Maybe there is a manufacturer that listens to their customers.
I honestly liked the 2007 paint options. I haven't purchased one yet though. If the 2007 Sport red/black is still available when I'm ready I may go with it.
I like it on my 07 Tricross Comp... it's "different"
I just got my '07 Tricross Sport to use for wicked climbing rides on crappy roads... and maybe to race cyclocross as well... and I despise the paint. I wanted anything, and I mean ANYTHING other than the god awful abused looking military olive paint scheme, but I got a screaming deal on it, and Olive was all that Specialized had left.
Sigh. She may be ugly, but at least she rides nice.
And I don't have to look at it... everyone else does.
