I might go...I guess last year there was a large BF contingent and the general opinion was that the route was 'meh'. Too much city streets, and calling it a Tour of Poway was a joke. You're only in Poway for a grand total of about 6 miles.

But, it is a century, and it is local, and it should be good training for PIE miles...so mehbee.

I'm in--it's on a Sunday btw.

I found the route to be "meh" at best. There was lots of construction, too. Of course, things could be different this year...

I'll be doing it with a couple of tri friends. The full century fits perfectly in their half-ironman training schedules, as it's 3 weeks out from Soma Half Ironman they are doing.

I found the route to be "meh" at best. There was lots of construction, too. Of course, things could be different this year...The construction was mainly around SR-56 and I-15 near the end.

Reading back on last year's thread, there have been complains about the food/water issue, but I forgot what the exact problem is.

I'm still deciding too, and will most likely go since it's local.

I wasn't thrilled about the ride last year, but there's a decent chance I'll end up doing this ride anyway.

They ran out of water at one of the stops.

Maybe, just to hang out with cool people. It's close enough to ride to the start.

Good! I need to get your wheel back to you!

I'm registered for the century along with my tri friend Michelle (from this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=344483)).

Edit: that means Voltman should be showing up...:D

When you go on organized rides don't you get hunted down like a rabid possum by the Helmet Police?

:D :D No, not so far. Actually I wear a helmet on most of these organized rides. I figured I create bad karma or piss the Lord off or maybe both when I don't wear a helmet after I've said that I will (on the waiver, you know). ;) When I did the Alpine Challenge without the "hat" I had two flats and on the Tour de Poway I crashed and broke a collarbone. Before some of you guys start quivering in terror, relax - no head injuries :D. Anyway, I'll probably wear it - on my head or on my handlebars depending on the terrain (seems like the Lord is OK with that :D).

DaveSANYYZ
09-28-07, 10:54 AM
I always where a helmet. On organized rides I don't think that's a rule; I've only it being a rule & enforced on club rides.

If it's like last year, there are many people. Registrations, waiver drop-offs, etc. It was kind of cramped when everyone was in that parking lot with the booths.

Last year, some of us waited at the western cowboy movie looking store that's across the street and a few houses away from the registration site. I haven't checked whether the start is the same as last year's though.

Yes, I'll be there! Waited until pretty much the last to decide, but now I'm paid up and committed (or should be!).

I'll be wearing my bikeforums.net "50+" jersey (yeah, the one for us old folks!). Never been to Poway before, but will try to find the meeting place: "Western Cowboy Movie Looking Store."

I guess that means that it looks like a place where you could rent Western Cowboy Movies? Something like that . . . Never cared much for those "Eastern Cowboy Movies" anyway.

Regardless, I'll be on the century course, riding at a fairly moderate pace (probably 15 - 16 mph ave.).

Yeah, that meeting place worked well last year. Probably easiest to let the crazy roll-out happen, then chase from the back.

By the way, in case anyone's checking on people before rolling, note that while I'm listed in post #1, I'm not actually doing this ride.
