Introductions - Hello from the country. Nice to meet you !

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all,

My name is Christian and I've been evidently bitten by the "road cycling bug"...I must've been bit about a year ago after taking my mtb in for a tune-up...I didn't see it coming, I was walking thru the aisles of road bikes and became disoriented. The next thing I knew I was being fitted and actually riding a "machine" that cost more than my first car (76 VW Super Beetle). Afterward I experienced momentary lapses of judgement and a complete state of giddyness. I left with my mtb and after coming to my senses a few days later found cycling brochures in my car...my wife said I was mumbling in my sleep that evening... bianchi, cannondale & serotta...she asked if I had met new friends/coworkers? I laughed and said no...

As a part of this "cycling bug" illness...I've slowly graduated from
1. mtb
2. mtb w/road tires
3. very old miyata ("steel is real" so I was told)
4. and now am looking for a road bike built in this century.

I'm addicted to road riding and as prescribed group therapy just completed my 1st century ride...I'm hoping I can continue my group therapy with you all...as my local bike mechanic encouraged me to get involved with folks that have a common interest...

My wife and young children are riding and support my participation (and I love them for it)...

So Hello to you all...and thank you for being supportive of my new found cycling habit (to some addiction)

Welcome to the forums! If you need a hand, feel free to PM myself or anyone else who catches your eye. Just a hint, lots of our more highly informed members like to hang out in Foo, anyone there will be friendly and helpful.

Not a problem man. I'm just sorry I can't help more, but I don't road ride yet. One more hint, avoid Botto at all costs. Him and Pete, but Pete's an MTBer. We're all cool:)

Hello Christian, what kind of bikes are you looking at? Sure you don't want to stick with that Miyata? Could we at least see some photos?

Welcome to BF!

Hi Christian and welcome to BF.
Drop by the Southeast subforum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=234) and introduce yourself to the locals in the Atlanta (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=234331) thread.

I'm hoping I can continue my group therapy with you all...as my local bike mechanic encouraged me to get involved with folks that have a common interest...
Local bike mechanic??? I thought all the bike shops in the Covington/Conyers area closed up. Is there a new shop out that way?

We've got 1 shop left. However, since I work in Atlanta I find that there are 1 or 2 shops where I can get a look at things that they don't carry out here. Since they're the only game in town price/selection is little tricky. -C

That Miyata's almosssttt my size! And it's got BioPace chainrings, too.

The Tommaso's pretty nice too. Is the Miyata too small, or the Tommaso too big?

Glad to see that you got the hang of the photo thing :D .

The Miyata fits at a 50cm, the Tommaso however is a 54cm and too big...

I met the buyer after he said it was 50 or 52...maybe ? However, I flipped it over and lo & behold it's stamped 54cm Made in Italy on the BB...w/ 105 and a beautiful campy seatpost how could I turn it down...I was there - it really needed a new home !

So I bought it with the hope of
1. trading for a newer 50 (w/ aluminum & STI) or
2. sell and buy another (little newer/little lighter) bike v. upgrading my Miyata w STI and some paint work...
