I posted this original post in "Introductions," and then saw the Clyde/Athena Forum, and I've modified it to with emphasis on the Clyde/Athena issues.

Name: Steve Loitz

Location: Seattle, WA, USA

Occupation: Attorney

Age: 50

Height: 6'2" (188cm)

Weight: 235 lbs. (107kg) (currently lean after annual mountaineering trip)

Bicycle Biz Background: part-time framebuilder for 30 years. Co-Founder of CurtLo with Doug Curtiss in 1977, although Doug is, and has been, the sole owner of CurtLo since its reincarnation in the early 90's. I currently build a few road frames per year with the "LOITZ" trade name.

Clyde/Athena Note: Doug Curtiss, who is 6'3" and 200+ lbs., and I started building frames in 1977 after each of us had broken bicycle stock Reynolds 531 bicycle frames as the result of vigorous road riding (i.e., no crashes). We soon began experimenting with larger diameter 4130 lugless (no lugs available back then for large tubes) designs, years before the advent of MTB's. Doug continued to build frames, keepign the CurtLo trade name. I returned to framebuilding as a hobby about 12 years ago. I was largely inactive in bicycling for the past 15 years, but a recent injury prevents me from running for a few months, and I've returned to bicycling as a means of conditioning. It's great getting back on two wheels.

Bicycle Touring Experience: Bicycled across the USA 4 times, in 1976, 1978, 1979 and 1980; from Missoula, MT to Anchorage, AK in 1981 (w/Doug Curtiss); 5 weeks of bicycle touring in Europe in 1985; Pacific Coast (BC to SF) in 1982; numerous shorter trips.

Other Athletic Stuff: Completed 74 running ultramarathons (mostly 50k's but a few 50 milers) from 1994 through 2007 (avg. weight = 245 lbs.); 20+ years mountaineering, telemark & randonee backcountry skiing; golf (c. 10 handicap)

Current bicycles: Loitz, of course

very cool and welcome to the group. You sound like an excellent resource of clyde friendly frames and design questions.

How cool to build frames...

I don't know what's taking East Hill so long, so in her stead I would like to say:

Pics, please?

Edit: found the website! Lots of photos...http://www.curtlo.com/photo-gallery.html

Another Edit: It's a fantastic website, the bikes are gorgeous!

I agree, the bikes are handsome, look very well put together. Not too sure on the name though. But hey the name is just as old as me so what can I say.

My reply in Introductions:

"Hello Big Steve, do you have time enough to ride your bike? Where?

Come say hi to the locals in the Pacific Northwest forum (unless you've already found us there) and we can ask more questions :D ."

I didn't know he came down here and posted, the rascal! I was going to ask for photos in the PNW forum :p .
