Introductions - Bob from Houston Texas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been posting in these forums for a few months, then discovered the introductions forum. So I'll introduce myself. The picture below is me (on the left) with my son and daughter. We had just completed the MS150 (174 miles) from Houston to Austin. It was a first for me and my son. It was second year for my daughter.
I am 59 and married to Anne for 35 years. My first road bike was purchased my first year of college. I later owned other bikes that would now be considered vintage. Then I stopped riding for 25 years. My daughter got us hooked to try it again. I now ride a carbon specialized Roubaix (shown below). I currently ride about 150-200 miles/week. I lost 28 lbs in the 18 months since returning to riding and hope to lose another 28. I love this sport because its one that I hope will carry me well into old age and its something my whole family does. Life doesn't get better than this!
I live on the west side of Houston, Texas. If you come out for Ryan's Saturday ride (Bicycle World and Fitness shop), you will see me there.

Hello Bob, I have also been posting for a while and just discovered the introductions. There are so many forum posts here that it is easy to over look many of them. This is a great forum.
I was curious about the ride you made from houston to austin, how did you get back to houston?
Was it a one or 2 day ride?
Congrads on your wieght loss. It takes so much excercise these days to keep the wieght off.
Your right when you say "life dosen't get any better than this"
Best wishes to you and your great family.

Be there by 6:45a.m. We roll out at 7am during the hot weather. The ride usually has a heard of fast guys who run 21-24 mph pace line. I start out there, but often end up pulling my own pace line at 20-21 mph. I always get a great workout and the group is beginning to gel with at least 10 regulars.
I hope to see you there.

What a nice note! The ride was 100 miles on Saturday and 74 miles on Sunday. The organization had prearranged buses and transport for riders and their bikes, if you wanted it. I preferred having my wife come up and meet us at the finish line to take pictures. I have a great picture of my son, daughter, and me crossing the finish line at the same time. I will cherish it for the rest of my life.
My daughter is director at large for the Houston Racing organization (about 700 members). She wrote an article about our family for their monthly newletter last year called "cycing is a family affair". Yes, that's a keeper, too.

Yeah, we did show up and ride.... I was the last one there, and hopefully didn't hold up the group too much. I think I pulled in a minute before 7:00, and scrambled to get ready. I was driving the dark red S-10 Blazer, and riding the black Bianchi with red tires/tape/cables. I think I saw you at the gas station at Barker Cypress... you turned around there right? I didn't say anything cause I was bagging my brooks saddle, and playing catch-up to the fast group and I didn't want to start a conversation right then. I hammered at 30 till I caught them... that is a fast group. Too fast for me... your pace sounds much closer to what my group normally does.
Definatly NOT my best ride. One friend went down... lots of rash. Another dropped cause he couldn't do the pace at ~20miles... two of us turned around to catch him and ride back with him. Right after we finished changing a flat of his... our friend who continued with the fast group called... he got a flat... in Fulshear... without all the needed supplies. He eventually finished after getting some help so we didn't need to drive out there. Those of us who turned around finished with a 44ish mile ride.
I'll be looking for you again the next time we do that ride.
