I have a Trek 7.2 (hybrid) that I have turned into a touring rig used mostly on smooth rails to trails (crushed limestone) and pavement for unsupported touring with ultralight camping equipment. I have done this in the past on a mountain bike. I mainly do overnights on weekends with possibly a week long trip now and then. This is also my only bike. I weigh 195 and my gear comes in at about 25 pounds normally, all carried on the rear rack/saddlebags.
My question is about the tires. It came with Bontrager Select Invert Aramid HD 700x35 tires. They seem to work well, except for too many flats (mostly from glass on roads). What would be other options for a more puncture resistant tire? I occasionally have to travel down slightly rougher gravel roads for short distances to reach campgrounds, etc. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks ahead of time. I have read many posts here; some day I would love to cross the US (on a better suited bike). I'm just training and having fun now! I really enjoy the bike and ride it everyday. I never thought I would ever get back into bike camping but I have. Backpacking is my first love.
