Foosters: Just wanted to let you all know.
Had a crash this evening in one of the hilly city parks. There is a scenic 12 mile loop with good rolling terrain and some short but steep climbs in this city park. I was doing a part of this loop for the first time and so wasn't completely familiar with the twists and turns. So this sharp right turn caught me completely off guard and I could not maneuver the bike safely to make the turn. Instead, I jumped off the left shoulder into the woods, went downhill probably 10 feet, did a full somersault with the bike and ended up entangled in thorny bushes.
The result? Lots of cuts and bruises on legs and arms. Thankfully there was no tree in my trajectory, which could have been bad. I made it out safe except for the bruises. It did shake me up a bit though for 5 minutes. There was no one passing by either, so its good that I didn't seriously need any help. Also, my bike made out totally fine, no dents, dings, twisted wheels or anything like that.
I was able to get back on the bike finish the remaining 10 mile ride and get home safely. Here are some pictures.
Everyone, please be safe out riding there. Never assume you wouldn't crash, it will catch you completely off guard. Take as much caution as you could and ride safe. You want to keep riding for the rest of your life and I hope its a long long one.
