Foosters: Just wanted to let you all know.

Had a crash this evening in one of the hilly city parks. There is a scenic 12 mile loop with good rolling terrain and some short but steep climbs in this city park. I was doing a part of this loop for the first time and so wasn't completely familiar with the twists and turns. So this sharp right turn caught me completely off guard and I could not maneuver the bike safely to make the turn. Instead, I jumped off the left shoulder into the woods, went downhill probably 10 feet, did a full somersault with the bike and ended up entangled in thorny bushes.

The result? Lots of cuts and bruises on legs and arms. Thankfully there was no tree in my trajectory, which could have been bad. I made it out safe except for the bruises. It did shake me up a bit though for 5 minutes. There was no one passing by either, so its good that I didn't seriously need any help. Also, my bike made out totally fine, no dents, dings, twisted wheels or anything like that.

I was able to get back on the bike finish the remaining 10 mile ride and get home safely. Here are some pictures.

Everyone, please be safe out riding there. Never assume you wouldn't crash, it will catch you completely off guard. Take as much caution as you could and ride safe. You want to keep riding for the rest of your life and I hope its a long long one.

I'm glad you're not hurt any worse than that.

Owchie wa wa!!

Yes, it's a good thing a tree didn't decide to break your fall!

The only other thing I could add is that next time you roll like that, be sure to plant your feet, make them stick, and throw up your arms a la gymnast style! (that's so you can always say you did it on purpose) *wink wink*

Glad you're more or less intact, CL. Thorn bushes, while pokey and scratchy, are a lot more forgiving than trees and cars.

"TA-DA!"

Did the thorny bushes at least have tasty berries?

Remember chicks dig scars (at least I am told so). Glad that the ring only impaled you in one spot..

Good to hear you're okay. Crashes are scary things even when you don't wind up badly hurt. I'm still recovering to a small extent from a nasty spill back in April--just scars, etc.--at this point, but you're always a little edgy under certain circumstances, at least for a while.

Glad you're ok CL. :) I nearly went down the other day myself! Yes, folks, it does happen when you don't expect it. That's why it's called an accident. :p

Changing those band-aids is gonna suck worse than the crash.

And yes, enough about you, how's the bike?

Thanks for kind words everyone.

The bike is totally fine, no problems whatsoever. I rode it in to work this morning.

Mo'Phat: No band-aids for me. I will let them heal on their own as long as they don't start bleeding again.

...in all seriousness...if they're at all deep, either use 'Liquid Band-Aids' which is like a sealant in the wound, or Neosporin. Ya don't want infection setting in.

/couldn't see their depth through teh shrubbery.
