Bianchi San Jose
Van Dessel Country Road Bob
IRO Rob Roy
Raliegh One Way (You'll have to take the fenders off)
Surly Crosscheck frame works for CX
Convert an old ten speed and put 700c rims and long reach brakes on it. Fat tires will fit.

What he said.

I ride a Surly CrossCheck single speed that I built up. Love it more than any bike ever. But I don't actually ride cyclocross. It's my commuter/town/do everything bike.

The Tricross single speed is off-the-shelf. I see them in stock at various LBS's. I test rode and very nice.

I ride/race a surly cross check. after cross season is over, I slap 44's on it and ride singletrack with it. I also use to ride it in triathlons. It is super versatile.

I work in a shop that sell's the san jose. It's great. if you want it for racing, it beats the surly hands down. if you want something not so spendy it also rules. I believe the weight is "plenty light for a SS steel bike moreso than the surly". I want one but there are already too many bikes in my house.

The Bianchi Roger is pretty nifty as well. A shame they won't sell it as a frameset, though.

thanks if i am 5'6'' and ride a 52'' road bicycle what size Rob Roy should i buy.

efficiency

The 52" or the 54". Send an email to IRO and ask them. Keep in mind that the 52" is the smallest size they make.

Group buys are fun, but seem to take ten times as long as one would hope. Depending on how urgent the need, it might not be the best approach.
