Foo - Pain in the foot......

I've been having a bit of pain on the bottom of my right foot for a couple of months. I thought it would probably go away eventually but it is not getting any better(or worse). I have a small knot/lump on the inside bottom edge of my foot. It's not really big enough to see, but I can feel it when I rub the bottom of my foot. It normally doesn't bother me much, but after I do a lot of walking or riding it really starts hurting. Sometimes after a lot of activity if I step on it just right(wrong?) it is excruciating(aka....It hurts like hell).

Yeah, I know I need to go to a Doctor to see what going on. But until I can get to one....does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Anyone every had the same ailment? I've heard of "bone spurs" but really have no idea what that is. I just can't imagine what it could be. :(

sounds like an alien is going to be bursting out of your foot in the near future, hopefully its the song and dance version, as opposed to the spit acid and kill you version.

That, or a bone spur.

yup...sounds like a plantar wart. Dr. can cut it off...the actually cutting wont hurt cause they'll pump your foot full of lidocaine. The shot itself is a biatch though. 25guage or large needle in the foot kind of sucks...but its only for a minute or so. then all you feel is a little tugging sensation...which is actually the dr. cutting on your foot. Total time is maybe 20 minutes.

ps...can you tell I've been thru this?

Sounds like a possible neuroma. Definitely, see a doctor about it.

I sometimes get that by positioning my foot poorly on the pedal when riding standing up.

It's in the arch. Under the skin. Not on the skin. There is nothing on the outside. Only the small "lump".

I've had something similar on my left foot, but on the top of the foot. Like you said, its particularly noticeable after larger amounts of walking or riding.

I've been to a podiatrist a few times and they've done nothing but gave me a cortisone shot and sent me on my way. I've had it for about 3 years now.

Plantar warts actually grow inside....not outside like a wart on a finger....the longer you let it go, the worse the pain gets. If its a neuroma, I am not sure of the treatment.

Either way, go see a podiatrist...he/she can tell you in just a few minutes what the problem is and what the proper course of treatment is.

I am going to go the other way here. I think you should see a Dr. immediately, but not a podiatrist. I would go to the proctologist. The fear and humiliation of having a camera shoved up your hiney should make the pain in your foot the last thing on your mind. And if you find the prospect of your anus on film exciting, then you got worse problems than a sore foot.

A neuroma is a benign nerve tumor and is caused by irritation to the nerve sheath from friction. The treatment, at least initially, is avoiding the pressure. Often cushioning or padding the area helps. Local injections also help. If that's unsuccessful, minor surjury is needed to remove it.

Plantar warts ussually are visable from the surface and may appear as a small dark dot. Take a look with a mirror. If its visable, over the counter treatment generally is successful.

It's definitely not visible. From what I have found, a neuroma is "an enlarged nerve that usually occurs in the third interspace, which is between the third and fourth toes". This is not even close to my toes. It's not on my heel either. It's right in the arch of my foot. :(

I just went to a podiatrist for the first time Tuesday. I have a small, marble shaped extra bone in the bottom of my foot. It's toward the back of the arch just about centered side to side. I never knew it was there until the x-rays he did but I can find it now when I feel for it. He said it's not all that uncommon and does often cause problems for people who run a lot.

I also had no idea that a bunion was actually a part of bone growing sideways from a foot bone. I'm having surgery to remove one on my right foot just behind my little toe on the 19th. 3 to 5 weeks off the bike according to the doc. OUCH!

You need to get checked (not by a proctologist..). Could be anything mentioned so far, or possibly plantar fasciitis.

You can get them in your arch if there's friction from, say, your cycling shoes. You're right that it is most common between the metataural heads but it ca also occur elsewhere. The major nerve passes inside of your ankle through the bottom of the foot and extends out through the sides of your toes. So if you are causing friction against the nerve, you can get a neuroma.

Come on, take a mirror, a razor blade and some needle nose pliers and see what's in there. Oh, better pour some alcohol over the razor first just to avoid an infection.

Make sure to put some of that alcohol on the open wound bfore you close it up. No telling what floated in there from dust particles in the air! :eek: :D

pics please!!!!!!!!!!! I have been known to use the razor blade to cut out deep splinters, and once cut out a small rock or something that was in my knee and had been encysted (was all hard and white and almost the size of a bb)

I used a small pair of wire cutter to cut a wart off my hand one time. :lol: I was surprised, but it never came back.

Before you go doing surgery on yourself, talk to Jsharr about going over to Vegas deck....he can film the surgery for you and post in on you tube :D
