So how do you get these things apart, anyhow? I've got a pedal that's knocking and I'm pretty sure it's the right one since I can grab it and wiggle it a little on the spindle so I wanted to take 'em apart and have a look. I've tried once by removing the locknut at the end of the spindle but it would come apart. How much 'convincing' should it take to get these apart or am I missing something?

I dont think aliums are rebuildable. I had a pair on my 'cross bike when I got it and switched to an old pair of atac carbons because the bearings were smoother and I couldnt find a way to replace the bearings in the aliums. :(

I will look at one tomorrow, and post if no one else has by then.

Well, while waiting for some advice on how to get 'em apart I decided to pass the time by hitting one with a hammer to see what happens... :D Actually, what I did was chuck them in a vise and use a punch to knock the spindle out. Earlier I had tried to get them apart by taking off the locknut and trying to pull the pedal off but it wouldn't give. After looking it over carefully and making sure there was no snap ring or other retainer in the way I got out the 'convincing tools' and got 'em apart. Packed both pedals full of grease and reassembled them, and next ride out I'll see if the knocking has gone away. I'm a little disappointed in the design of these pedals -- they're the low-end range of the Time product line but still kinda pricey as pedals go and I would expect something a little better than bushings and a single cartridge bearing. I guess that's a good excuse to go out and get a pair of these:

if youre replacing them youd be better off getting atacs IMHO. for the $ of the crank bros you could probably get carbon atacs and have buttery smooth bearings and a bombproof platform. or get the composites and save some $ if youre not prone to smacking your pedals on rocks. just my very biased 2 cents as a longtime atac rider. :D

I'll second that opinion. Or, wait until the Candy's are out for awhile and the price comes down a bit!

Yes, tap it with a hammer. When you put it back together don't tighten the locknut up to much, just enough to take the play out.
