i am thinking that i would need a back rack for my bike whenever i decide to carry some stuff and i saw some at the bike store that attaches on the seat post... how are these racks...? this would allow me to take it off easily whenever it's not needed...
They work, just don't expect to put alot of weight on it. What are you plannign on carrying around?

i'm not really physically fit to do any of those really long rides, but on trails, sometimes i need to carry some stuff... the heaviest i'm planning on carrying is my book bag if i ever decided to bike commute to classes...
Check out the specs on the rackitself, most I believe are rated up to around 20lbs, but realize your seatpost is supporting that.. I would not even go that much weight on one.

I had one once, I very rarely used it to carry anything (and certainly never used it for shopping). That fact didn't prevent it from breaking my seatpost one day in the middle of nowhere. PErsonally I think seat-post mounted racks are evil, smelly, disgusting and totally non-functional.

If you have the threaded eyelets on your frame, then use a proper luggage rack. They are much lighter in weight and rated to carry heavier loads. You can get 3-point fittings if you only have fender eyelets and not chainstay ones (like the Tubus Fly).
