I've used my Bianchi Alloro for Battenkill-Roubaix. Would I just be asking for trouble to take it onto a cross course?

Depends primarily on tire clearance. I think you'd want room for at least 32C knobbies, which AFAIK most contemporary road bikes won't accept.

Gotcha. Yup, def. won't accept anything beyond a 25.

You could just try it with skinny tires and if you win, next week half the field would probably be lined up with road bikes.

Might work if the course is dry :D

Hope your wheels are sturdy though....

you'd be doing the race on a bike less suited for the race. if you're okay with that you'll probably surprise yourself at how well you're able to adapt.

i wouldn't worry so much about the frame. like acorn_user said the wheels are more likely to be damaged. but if you put on a different fork, you could run wide tires and canti brakes and all that fun stuff. if there's frame clearance in the back it could make a damn fine cross bike.

but run what ya brung, it doesn't matter.
