A few years ago I used to average about 500 per month but most of that was on a commute. Now it's more like 300 - 400 depending on home many longer rides I get on the weekends.

518.6 in 7/2004
400 in 8/2004
In 2005 my wife was ill so I didn't get much more
than 150 miles a month.
In 2006 I got back on track and hit 334 in November,
did anywhere from 220-250 from Apr-December.
In 2007 I got 253 miles in January and I'm on track
to surpass that this month (I'm at 248 right now).
Last year was great, about 3000 miles, I'm at 1658
today but didn't ride in Jan or Feb 2006 and I've
ridden every month so far this year. The next 3
months I'm really going to ramp up the miles as
much as I can.

Methinks a nice GPS system is called for. I wonder how simple it is to just turn it on, log my ride, and upload the rides on occasion. Lazy, I know, but it would be sweet! Anybody have experience using GPS for logging miles and routes on a daily basis?
I use a Garmin Edge 305. After every ride, I plug it inot a USB cable in my computer (Macintosh) to re-charge the battery. While it's doing that, I also download the ride data using a program called Ascent (http://www.montebellosoftware.com/). If I miss one day, it'll download all the previous ones it doesn't already have. It keeps track of all my data: speed, distance, heart rate, cadence--you name it. Then it puts it into weekly, monthly & yearly totals. It then overlays my ride route on a map (doesn't matter where, BTW), showing the roads and the route as compared to effort, speed/pace, or heart rate so I can see where on the course I really struggled. Great software with regular updates. Better than Garmin's Training Center software for Mac. I can also send new courses to my Garmin (after I have previously plotted them out--I use bikely.com (http://www.bikely.com/)) which then displays it on a little map, so I can see visually where to turn left or right as it comes up. Really neat stuff.
However, I have had some occasional file/data corruption issues, so I take the total miles once a month or so and enter them at the bikejournal.com (http://www.bikejournal.com/) website. It keeps the data for me reliably.
+1 on the Garmin, love mine.

Oh, almost forgot. Since January of this year (I started riding in August of '06 after 12-years off):
Previous best month: July, 2007--882 miles
New best month (September, 2007): currently at 852 miles (as of Friday, 9/28). I should finish with 975 on the 30th.
Previous best week: around 250 miles a couple weeks ago
Best week: I should end this week (Sunday) with around 332 miles, my best ever. If I can maintain this weekly amount, I should easily complete October with over 1,000 miles :)
Year-to-date total: 6,807 miles (756 miles per month avg.)
My Yearly goal going in to 2007? 5,000 miles :)

I do just over 138 miles a week on my commute. That works out to 552 miles a month just for the commute. I guess my highest would have been the month I also did a century and some other weekend rides. Call it about 700.

As of Friday, I have 542 miles for this month. This beats my previous highs of +400 miles in March and May of this year. Longest ride was 62 miles so no really long rides, just alot of days in the saddle this month, 17 days. These rides, with exception to the 62 mile group ride, were all on a MUP and were 25, 34, or 43 mile rides.

500+ in August, 520 miles for September, and planning on the same for October. Trying hard to get the miles in before the rainy season.

283 in September.
Man, you guys are both motivated, and motivational. I don't know if I will ever have the time to log more miles than that -- but I can probably fill a couple of missed days. Those miles are on a combination of my MTB and exercise bikes in hotels -- I know every hotel exercise bike between Chapel Hill & Little Rock.

I got somewhere around 1200 miles in July, almost 1100 of them in 2½ weeks of touring in Sweden.

Less then 2 hours left in September, doubtful I'll get any more miles. Looks like my all time high is 514.1 miles for this past month. Previous best was May this year at 416. Running 2250 miles for the year to date. Wife did quite a bit of complaining when I was "riding again", so it will be quite a while before I get near 500 miles again. Hopefully by next year I can drop another 20 pounds and that 100 mile century will become a greater possibility. Training for a century could challenge this high.

Miles?
I don't track no stinkin' miles!
One of the best things I ever did was to get rid of the cyclo-puter. Now, I enjoy my rides much more, I tend to take more "side trips," and I end up riding longer.
The only thing I watch is, well, my watch. And that is only because I'm trying to fit a ride into the course of a day where I have other things that need to be done as well.
Now, don't flame me folks. I know that there are some of you who absolutely get geeked over the amount of miles you ride. That's great, and if that stokes you up, then go for it. It's just not my particular cup of java, that's all.

My new commute has started. Even though there is a death defying entrance/exit from the under ground parking garage it does have a shower! With commuting plus the century this weekend I'm looking at 1024 miles for October up from ~700 for September. I'm down/stuck on the 270lb barrier hopefully I can push through with the extra mileage.
It is being pretty overwhelming though to think of that kind of mileage and being able to keep it up. I have been tempted by getting an electric assist rig going even. I try not to pay attention to how long it is taking but the wife is kinda giving me push back for the hours of riding I do a way instead of just driving.

Why would we flame ya? We all ride for our own reasons and have our own expectations! Why would you be any different :D

Rode over 1,200 miles per month a couple times since May and as high as ±1350. Number of miles will go down quite a bit if/when it ever rains around here and when time doesn't permit riding 35-40 (and up) miles per day.

I started riding in late April. Best month so far was September with 270.6 miles. That was just riding on Saturdays. One century, then alternating 35 & 50 mile rides for an average ride of 54.1 miles.
I just got a trainer. I am now going to be aiming at 250 miles a month minimum. I don't have a lot more time than that to get miles in (you know...family, work, etc...), unless I do a century here and there. That will help boost the numbers.
Barring any illness or injury I should be able to reach the 2K mark by the end of the year (over 8 months).
I don't see getting more than around 3k a year unless I get my wife and 7 year old daughter out doing 30-50 mile rides with me so I can get more of that distance in :D

I suppose I do about 500-600 miles in a month. I doubt I've ever done more than 800 in a month.

I did four, one thousand mile months in a row in the sumer of 2005. Went from 245 to 203. But, I really got burned out on riding, and leveled out at around 600 miles a month nowadays. Weight around 220.

This is my first full year of riding in a long time, after buyring my recent road bike late last year. I had originally set this year's goal at 1800 miles. Yesterday I cracked 2200 with a best month of 401.

Holy poop! 4 digit mileage in a month is awesome, and I wish I had the endurance to pull that off. Not quite yet, though. I just stepped up my mileage for this month. I had 380 for September with an average week being 4 x 15mi r/t commutes + ~40miles over the weekend. I'm getting more into longer distance after having finished a metric century in early September, so I'm stepping up my mileage in training for a full century (and thinking about the Year-Rounder challenge for 2008.) Now a week looks more like 4 x 15mi r/t commute + 3 x 15mi stationary 'bent sessions + ~40mi over the weekend; so I'm aiming for 145/wk or 580/month.

OK, October = 338.6 miles. Started in August and my YTD total is now 698.8. I need 301.2 in November to hit my goal of 1000 miles for 2007. If the weather stays decent, I think I can make it. Wish me luck.

So today, I went over the 3000 mile mark :) I may even make 3400 before the end of the year
