They've said the track in Stuttgart, with its aged wooden surface is a fast one. It took the Australian pursuit team to prove just how fast as the four-man team of Graeme Brown, Peter Dawson, Luke Roberts and Brett Lancaster smashed the existing world mark - set by the Aussie squad a year ago - by more than two seconds Saturday...

This is truly an amazing feat considering the 4 man pursuit is one of the most difficult to train for. The logistics involved in this, getting the 4 riders together and spending the time and expense to meld them into a synchronous team is immense. I don't know how they're doing it Down Under, but this accomplishment is no mean feat.

I know I've been drooling over that one but a bit large for me :( And quite a bit out of my price range.

I'd ride a 55x14 (on a track) if I could find one. I bet it's not really THAT hard to do. I ride a 52x16 right now...

i'll assume that you mean finding a track...

since you're in chicago, you could head out to northbrook, or even up to kenosha. there are tracks in both places.

kenosha: www.333m.com (http://)
northbrook: www.northbrookvelodrome.com (http://)

as for how hard, it depends. if you're on a track or a flat road and you're not worried about how long it takes to get started from a dead stop, not hard at all.

riding a 55x14 up any sort of hill would be rather difficult, i would think (unless you've got twice my power and 1/3 my weight).

55x14 is like 52x13! It's quite hard! If this is not hard for you than I would like to meet you and get in my team right now! the perception of a gear being difficult is always in perspective of the event ridden. In that case a team pursuit at over 60k(or the relative intensity) is FAST. And I can guaranty that your leg will melt!

But...try it! ANd you gotta have a fast track to gear up like this! I would say take a 54x13 instead mostly if it's kisena.;)

I don't know anything about track racing. At Northbrook in two weeks (I think) they're having the Olympic Gold Metalist out there and there's a whole big deal going on. I am gonna try to get a ride out there to join in the festivities so maybe I'll see some of y'all out there (or maybe someone wants to give me a ride!!)!

18 gear inches is a fairly significant difference... you go 5mph faster at 90 rpm.

btw, 52/16 is a huge ass street gear. how are the knees?
