I just scored a registration ... :D

Anyone else signed up and going to this? It would be a great opportunity to meet up with the SoCal'ers who are doing this. It starts in San Luis Obispo, and heads north towards San Simeon. It's a great ride, and the support is just excellent. The SLOBC is amazing ... they also do the Wildflower Century. It's amazing that such a small club is able to put together two of the best centuries of the year.

The SLOBC has a page in which people can list registrations (and related items like T-shirts) they want to sell.

I had 2 reg's for the Wildflower but couldn't go, and I sold them off very easily by listing them on that page.

So keep checking this: http://www.slobc.org/LhRegistrationFull.html

You're bound to see reg's come available as the ride day approaches.

I guess no one else from NorCal is going. It's a shame. It's a gorgeous ride. There will be a big SoCal BF contingent there. I was hoping to get a bunch from NorCal BF there too. Oh well. And it's halfway point between NorCal and SoCal.

Lighthouse Century was excellent. Highly recommend this ride for anyone who wants to "enjoy" a ride. Great weather conditions, and terrific support.

I got in to Lighthouse because Karen (InkedinPink) was not able to make it, so she sold her registration and hotel room at Rose Garden Inn (pre-paid) to me. Thursday, there was a BF posting about Rose Garden Inn losing some reservations. So I called, and they asked if the reservation was done over the Internet, and they said yes, it is in there. I was still a little skeptical so I got to the hotel around 3 PM, just in case I ran into some problems.

As it turned out, the hotel couldn’t trust just me saying this, and having Karen call them. Since Karen didn’t have access to a fax machine, she couldn’t fax over her driver’s license for proof. So she had to call the internet trave agency, so that they can call the hotel, before the whole thing can get resolved. The silly thing is Karen did actually call them before, and they said it was all okay. So my impression of Rose Garden Inn is pretty low.

Met the group a little before 7 am, and was ready to roll. Took a pit stop before rolling, but I laid my bike along the fence, which had a slew of thorns, which attracted itself to my front tire. So I took some time to yank out all the thorns, hopefully no flats for the rest of the ride.

Finally, got it repaired, and we are ready to roll. Just a few hundred feet after we make the first turn, there was another flat. Then, a little later on, ME had problems with the magnet for her cadence. This all happened < 1 mile going out. This was a bad omen.

Despite the problems, I felt really good this day. I was riding with Scootcore and Cassave, trading leads in the beginning. Then, Cassave powers up this hill, and that's the last we would see of him until he loops around to ride with us, 7 miles from the turnaround point.

I was noticing something wrong on my computer. The speedometer reading was sporadic, so I had to stop after we made the right turn into the hill climb. My sensor was not quite parallel to the sensor, so one quick adjustment, and it's all better now.

Oh, the hill climb. That was just gorgeous. I was a long climb, but definitely doable. As always, the climb got steeper and steeper near the end. There was this one right hand bank, which was really steep, and I happen to notice my computer reading 20%. Yikes.

After we reached the top, we were ready to head back to the coast. We had a nice downhill descent, but that was a little dicey. There were stiff cross winds, and it got to the point where I had to slow down a little bit, just so I would get thrown off my bike. That was a wild ride.

The rest of the ride went through pretty smoothly. The winds were calmer this time than in past years. This contributed to the great ride, and the company that I rode with was excellent ... MErider1, Happytime, Cassave, Scootcore, Raiderdave ... it made it thoroughly enjoyable and lotsa fun. It is why we ride ... to have fun!

It was a great ride.

I rode the flat century, essentially 50 miles up Highway 1 to the lighthouse and back. Fast, fun, great day all round.

I wanted to break 6 hours for a century this year and had ridden 6 hrs 9mins twice on different events - the i Care Classic and Wine Country centuries. The lighthouse was really fast, two great pace lines got me through the first half in great shape and one guy worked with me to cover the fifth leg at a really great pace.

Final time - 5hrs 3 mins!
