I've been a reader of this forum for over a year now. Just decided to register and share my excitement with everyone.
Last August 1st I decided to commute to work 100 times in one year (17miles RT). I completed my 100th day on July 30th!
How many miles a year do others ride on their commute? Is this a good accomplishment?

Congratulations, and welcome.

1700 commuting miles in a year is a terrific accomplishment. It's 1700 miles more than almost everybody else in the US does, for one thing.

If you really want to compare yourself to ther riders, search some of the old threads. There a re a lot of polls that attack this topic from various perspectives ("How far...?" "How long...?" How often...?").

But nuts to that. Compare how you feel today to how you felt a year ago. That's what's important.

Congratulations. The year is only about 2/3 gone, I bet you will get 150 this year. Achieving your goals is soo satisfying.

Well done Benj, and welcome, 100 commutes shows you are committed to the sport. After years of riding to work on and off I also started to commute to work regularly on August 1st 02, same day as you. I rode 112 times and covered just on 4600km/2875miles. My commute is a bit longer 45km/28miles but I only ride into work and get a lift home. It takes real dedication to ride both ways.

CHEERS.

Congratulations! We have the same commute and my goal is 500 miles. 100 trips is outstanding in my view.

Keep us posted ... 2000 miles is the next milestone. I think that qualifies you as hardcore.

Congratulations! I'm counting my commuting miles currently.. I'm not even close to you though. Keep up the good work :)

I agree with zoridog - first thing is well done is setting a goal and achieving it. The best person to compare your goals with is yourself. The great thing about your first goal is that it was achievable and now you know what it takes to meet your next challenge.

Thanks for all the feedback. I like the idea of a goal in the form of milage instead of number of trips. This year I'll shoot for 2,000 miles.

Congradulations:

I've stopped keeping track of all the commuting miles long ago. When you stop keeping track of all the miles, that's when bike commuting becomes second nature like flushing the toilet. Well. I guess I could have used a better example but that was the only thing in my mind.

On a separate note, there are bikers on this forum who have decade under their belt so you have a long way to catch up!

Welcome to the addiction.
