commuted to work today on my road bike, had some errands to run after work with my wife so she picked me up from work. But the bike on the roof rack and decide we wanted to get some dinner first. So it was off to the favorite Chinese restaurant. No parking in the front or the side, but ahh there are spaces in the parking garage (see you remember that I had a bike on the roof, I didn't). Bent the fork, possibly the handlebars and ripped the roof rack of the top of the car.

What a crappy night.

What a rotten beginning to the weekend. I can feel the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that you have in yours.

Sure hope it gets better from here, because it darned sure can't get any worse.

Wow! It is a wonder that all you did was bend the fork. Did the roof rack pop off, or was it ripped out of the metal roof?

Popped off, doesn't look like there is any damage to the roof of the car, that's at least luck, however it was a factory installed luggage rack with a thule rack mounted to it, the factory rack is the on that is totaled have to take it to the dealership on tuesday to see if they can get a new rack, if not I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

That sucks bigtime!

It will probably never happen to you again, however. Driving around with stuff on the roof rack, you become aware of clearances.

i've been using my roof rack for 7 years, and never forgot until last night :(, at least they checked the frame today and it's not bent or tweaked. but I've got to replace the front brake, bar tap, fork, and possibly one shifter and two cable housings.

lesson learned.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I think you came out of it pretty good, considering how bad it could have been....

yeah my daughter has told me this several times :). And she is just glad that her brand new CF Felt F3 wasn't on the roof with my bike ;).

That certainly qualifies as a crappy night, but there are so many things that could have been worse. I hope it doesn't cost much to get it all fixed
